It really is. I also feel really guilty that I get to escape while my family is left to deal with the heat
Im going overseas to a meeting on climate & Health - it could not be more ironic.

Im travelling overseas today to attend a climate change & Health expert meeting- irony is not lost on me.
But I've stressed to my husband the importance of staying safe. And if (God forbid) fires ignite, get out early.

Indeed.
Heatwaves of this length aren't common in Australia (yet), usually <=5 days.
We aren't in el nino, or had a +ve IOD in spring. So its severity is worrying.
Mercifully, Canberra does have lower nighttime temps - one of the reasons we moved from Western Sydney.

I've made the decision not to go while trump is in power. Im actually not confident I'd be let in anyway...I've said a few things on the public record he would not like. Don't like the idea of being detained, simply for saying how it is.

It's soooo windy here. Every time a door opens its like a furnace blowing in 🥵 hope you guys are ok.

Hard agree. Given how disparate the funding is between fire agencies and defence, they should have paid.

Oh my! That was 9 years ago - Sydney had its hottest summer that year (since beaten ). I watched it now with my youngest on my lap and it brought tears.
My concerns have amplified since.
My family has grown but we're now in Canberra & doing as much as possible to reduce carbon footprint & adapt.

I completely agree with you. Very little in the way of meaningful and permanent action

Thank you 🤩 i really enjoy this sort of writing

me too - all will be revealed in the next 48 hours.
that was once serious cock-up by Defense!

It would be quite straightforward to do, if the total emissions are known.
We're working on a webpage that can basically do this, based on our paper + more impacts included. Will be launched sometime in the new year - watch this space

Absolutely! Pushing ahead with it as fast we can but we have limited resources

Hi Kirsty, happy for you to reach out via standard work email. but in a nut shell, if we can convert CH4 into CO2 equiv (which can be done) then we have a solid shot. we are also working on a freely available online tool & other impacts too

thanks, I might need to train up in Katniss-like skills.....
My husband asked if there was a hit out on me already, and whether he need to look in to witness protection. I'm not entirely sure if that was all said in humor

HARD AGREE!
October 14, 2025 at 2:56 AM
(Who knows, maybe they'll come after me now too....)
October 14, 2025 at 1:50 AM
Yeah this is pretty abhorrent. It has tones of the climate wars all over again. Pretty low of them to come after IPCC authors in this way.
Im a CLA w Fredi on Ch3, she's a brilliant scientist
