I’ve been working on packaging for Dizzy Sheep Disaster lately, here’s a prototype of the e-reader booster pack design!

The label art is a mockup pending final design from @mteegfx.com, who I know is gonna make it look amazing!

I'm super stoked to finally reveal these card designs, y'all. Everything from the text, illustration, and layout are the culmination of something I've been wanting to do for a long, hot minute; and @sarahlynne.bsky.social's been a total blast to work with on it.

The amazing @mteegfx.com has been working on card designs for Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX for the Nintendo E-Reader and I’m loving the results! We’re getting close to ready!

Not everyone has an e-reader, so I’ve been working on a web-based version of Dizzy Sheep Disaster you can play from a QR code or a link. It’s coming together well! #screenshotsaturday

Been quietly working on Dizzy Sheep Disaster lately. Here’s a winter stage showcasing the reverse direction button for #screenshotsaturday!

In my case I’m using a heavily modified version of nez: nez-emulator.nes.science - since there’s an underlying NES game this makes most sense. (Changes will be open sourced)

However for z80 Matt Greer put this together: github.com/city41/eread...

You’ve got some good options!

Thank you so much! I appreciate it!

ps: If you want to play games on the e-reader even sooner, @retrodotcards.com released their first round of games today!

I'm still hard at work on my e-reader game, with hopes to release it by the end of this year! Lately the focus has been the web-based emulator. I want to make sure people without an e-reader still get a really fun experience

I'm giving away 20 copies of Exo Attack for the Nintendo E-Reader.

Repost this post to be entered into the contest.
A picture of a Game Boy Advance with an e-Reader inserted into it. The game Exo Attack is playing on the Game Boy. Exo Attack cards are off to the right. The caption says "Nintendo E-Reader Game Giveaway!"

I remember seeing a sleeve of these (air hockey) in a toys r us as a kid, with a free sign. Wish I’d grabbed a couple extras in retrospect!

I would absolutely love to see the game & watch cards resurface like this

Oh hey I got this at mgc! I saw that @elviestm.bsky.social did the programming and art too. Looks fun!

(Now if I could just find time to play it 😅)

Dizzy Sheep Disaster is a new puzzle game for the Nintendo E-Reader (yes, the card scanner!) coming out later this year!

How did I never know you made more aspect star games?? Will have to give this a shot!

With a lot if hacking, maybe!

The limit is definitely smaller than SMB1! SMB1 is 32kb of game data and 8kb of graphics for a total of 40kb

The limit for ereader NES games is 16kb of data and 8 kb of graphics, for a total of 24kb. This is likely why SMB1 never got an e-reader release
sarahlynne.bsky.social
Due to compression the answer is complicated, but about 2.6kb per dotstrip. This is around 5.2kb per card, and officially released games used all 5 cards. (Around 26kb)

My game fits into 5 cards, though I think it’s theoretically possible to hit 6 if I do things that don’t compress

I've been a bit quiet but I'm still hard at work on Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX! I recently wrote up a guide on how to make an e-reader game from a NES game. Give it a look!
