Well nuanced piece. We have always lived with shifting populations and power centres. If we look to the natural world we must acknowledge it is never in stasis. The rub though is the collapse of the AMOC which could make parts of Europe uninhabitable.

One of the most disturbing aspects of this case is that professional, well paid women have been front and centre of the calls to ‘burn the witch’. It reeks of classism.

This is the territory occupied by No Farmers No Food. They have preyed on genuine farmer’s concerns to Trojan horse the sector. Some farmers seem genuinely oblivious.

I do see hardened progressives having issues with Ellie and Adrian and Ellie has had some pretty disgusting commentary thrown at her. I get drawn back to the early successes of XR which mixed protest with dialogue and engagement, bringing in people outside the bubble 1/2

Ellie is my neighbouring constituency mp and I have been impressed by her capacity to get stuff done but I can see why Zack has appeal to the younger party base.2/2

That 13% is from @moreincommonuk.bsky.social and will be aggregated, so yes will most likely be higher in urban areas. All of the candidates have their strengths and weaknesses and tbf I am not sure if any of the candidates will take the party into the next election 1/2

It’s tempting to fall for the noise on SM but remember that progressives only make up 13% of voters. Even in fragmented electorate the top priorities remain the same with climate and biodiversity shifting upwards.

It’s tempting to fall for the noise on SM but remember that progressives only make up 13% of voters. Even in fragmented electorate the top priorities remain the same with climate and biodiversity shifting upwards.

It could be a mistake to take the fight to Reform, that’s what Labour are doing and they seem to be getting a backlash for it. Support for Reform is reactionary and I suspect it will diminish and Labour will recover, partly. There is a risk in electing a leader outside the parliamentary party 1/2.

ZP appears to be good at comms but lacks political depth. Will any of them be able to reach out beyond their respective party member supporters to connect with voters?

I had expected the GP to really swing in behind net zero and biodiversity loss, especially since there has been a public backlash against Labour’s attack on nature. AR & EC seem to be doing the political graft but not good at public comms1/2

Investing in nature-led, diverse and sustainable food systems should be a win win in favourable climates like ours. But Starmer is mothballing our farming and expects to make up the shortfall by importing from brittle climates that are likely subject to other shocks.

It’s a monstrous, beyond understanding. We had begun to make real progress in convincing farmers to work with nature whilst being able to sustain their businesses and communities. Bridges too were being built between the farming and environmental sectors with meaningful cooperations happening.
