Publics and UK parliamentarians underestimate the urgency of peaking global greenhouse gas emissions

The cartoon shows a scientist at a lectern talking on six different years:
1990 "So, this climate change thing could be a problem ..."
1995 "Climate change: Definitely a problem"
2001 "Yep, we should really be getting on with sorting this out pretty soon ..."
2007 "Look, sorry to sound like a broken record here ..."
2013 "We really have checked, and we're not making this up"
2019 "is this thing on?" Scientist tapping the microphone

The six years depicted were all years in which IPCC reports were published
Cartoon in two panels
The upper panel, labelled “5th extinction” shows a group of fearful dinosaurs looking up at an approaching meteor.

In the lower panel, labelled “6th extinction”, the dinosaurs are replaced by modern animals also looking up fearfully, but this time the meteor is replaced by a fat, wealthy man, smoking a large cigar and clutching a bundle of money.

Mind-blowing fact from @ben during #fediforum : in an fundraising experiment, he was able to raise more donations for #propublica on the Fediverse than on any other social channel. 🤯

Then, to squall above the level

Shaken by owl cry."

Yes, Lecornu was in office for 27 days and formed a government that lasted 14 hours. You can't make a cassoulet in that time.

I'm very concerned about all the #GlobalSumudFlotilla detainees, but especially Hannah Schafer, who seems likely to be held in extended detention in Israel. Israeli armed forces have committed grave and multiple breaches of international law in attacking the flotilla and mistreating its crew.

So for those of you who don't follow the news from France closely (I understand, things go fast). The new government (which was pretty much the previous government) was announced yesterday and resigned this morning. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

The Labour gov has so far arrested well over 1,000 people for holding up signs

Yes, this really happened. The Met police has been arresting so many anti-genocide protesters that they’re complaining about how much they’re having to work overtime.

Poor cops. It’s tough being forced to arrest someone’s grandma because she doesn’t want kids starved to death.

I'm not so sure. I have a feeling that he tries so hard to please people that he ends up pleasing no one.
Either that or his former life as a human rights lawyer really was a sham and merely a vehicle to edge his way into politics.
