It was great to meet with some interns and volunteers from the San Diego Chapter of UNA-USA to discuss global issues, including fighting the climate crisis and ending the atrocities and humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

Trump canceled the grant that helped fund Loma Elementary’s Parent Empowerment Program, which offers support and coaching for parents with kids struggling with behavioral challenges at school. I’m so glad I could see their invaluable work, and I will work to restore this funding.

Travel and tourism support thousands of local workers and families. So I was glad to join a roundtable with business leaders and officials from the U.S. Travel Association and San Diego Tourism Authority about the challenges they’re facing, from infrastructure to visa issues.

Urban Street Angels provides housing and support for youth experiencing homelessness in San Diego. I visited their La Mesa office again to see their incredible work on the ground.

Over the past year, Head Start programs like Neighborhood House Association in San Diego have faced a barrage of threats and attacks on funding from the Trump Administration. I won’t stop fighting to protect access to affordable early education and child care.

Fraud in the care economy is nowhere near the epidemic levels that some conspiracy theorists suggest. That’s why I was glad to visit ARCC Center Foundation, which connects kids with developmental disabilities to respite workers, to hear about their work and auditing requirements.

I visited Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish’s Pope Francis Center, which offers legal aid, spiritual guidance, and mental health services for immigrants and families. As a proud immigrant and border community, we will continue to stand against violence from ICE and Border Patrol.

In the 70s, the DOJ sued Donald Trump for housing discrimination when his properties consistently rented to white applicants but turned away people of color who applied.
So no, I’m not shocked that Donald Trump still wants to make housing more inaccessible and only for the rich.

I led a Congressional oversight visit at the USCIS San Diego Field Office to learn more about questionable arrests made by ICE during routine immigration interviews and found their responses wholly insufficient.
We need more answers and more accountability. This has to stop.

It was my honor to recognize these Vietnam veterans in my district and present them with a Vietnam War Commemoration Pin as a small token of our gratitude. It represents a promise that we won’t forget their service and their sacrifice for our country.

The House just passed a funding bill that does NOTHING to stop 15 million Americans from being kicked off their health care or protect our democracy. But it DOES let Senators involved in the January 6th investigation SUE the government for $500,000 each.
