Terwijl boeren kampen met te lage inkomens, oneerlijke contracten en klimaatverandering, houdt rechts zich bezig met deze onzin. Ze marchanderen over woordjes op verpakkingen en nutteloze regelgeving.

🧵 Het Europees Parlement wil de naam 'veggieburger' verbieden. Dit is werkelijk ongelooflijk.

Ik heb nog nooit iemand gehoord die zich vergist wanneer die echte kip of veggie kip koopt. Dit is het toppunt van betutteling - mensen weten zelf wel wat ze in hun winkelkar leggen. 1/3

Today we sent a letter to the EU Commission: fix your IT problems, don't reopen the law.

After 3 years, this amateurism is unacceptable. Our companies need investment certainty. Forests are disappearing . Deploy resources now and implement on schedule!

A trade wall protects existing jobs, but doesn't make them future-proof.

We need bold action now: demand stimulation for green European steel. Steel manufacturers like ArcelorMittal must see the business case for greening their blast furnaces, or we'll lose competitiveness within a decade. 2/3

Today at 5pm, Commissioner Séjourné will announce higher steel tariffs - raising them from 25% to 50%.

It's a necessary step to stop cheap Chinese steel from flooding our market and destroying thousands of Ghent & European steel jobs. But tariffs alone won't save our industry. 1/3 🧵

Zonder marktcreatie voor groen staal komen er geen investeringen. En net die investeringen hebben we nodig — voor het klimaat, voor sterke industrie, voor goede jobs.

Bescherming van onze staalsector door vergroening is de enige weg vooruit. 3/3

We hebben ook dringend vraagstimulering nodig voor groen Europees staal. Zolang vervuilend staal in Europa binnenstroomt tegen dumpingprijzen blijven investeringen in vergroening hier uit. 2/3

Hogere importtarieven voor staal zijn noodzakelijke stap.

Zonder actie wordt EU overspoeld door goedkoop Chinees staal waardoor duizenden jobs verloren gaan. Optrekken van handelsmuur volstaat niet om jobs te behouden én toekomstbestendig te maken. 1/3

Every day of delay means more deforestation while we desperately need forests for our health, climate & biodiversity.

The Commission must act with urgency: deploy personnel, fix the system, keep the timeline. Investment certainty depends on it.

We need to stop fossil subsidies now and redirect billions to renewables: solar on every roof, offshore wind, energy storage.

We need an ambitious circular economy law to cut raw material use, create massive jobs in recycling & repair, and make us independent from authoritarian regimes. Strong legislation, not band-aids. 3/4

Climate disasters cost €162 billion (2021-2023).

We need the opposite of cuts: an ambitious climate adaptation law with major investments in nature restoration. Every euro invested now saves billions later. Nature restoration is the cheapest insurance there is. 2/4

We urgently need to modernize EU mining waste legislation - it's heavily out of date, even compared to China or Brazil.

In the face of a new mining frenzy, we need local community buy-in to minimize pollution and damage & secure strategic autonomy. Séjourné's silence is concerning. 3/3

Portugal's Barroso lithium mine got strategic status this year, but UN committee just slammed its environmental assessment for "misleading information."
