To celebrate me joining the British citizens' club, a friend has gifted me the book 'How to be a Brit' (1946). One sentence in the introduction had me laughing out loud:

Reading Naples '44 by Norman Lewis, I am stunned by how much things haven't changed since WWII. My heart is equally broken and proud: broken because of the corruption, the crime, the ineptitude of the state; proud because the resilience, warmth and creativity of Neapolitans always shines through.
