I don’t want to get super deep into it, but I will say it’s not that I’m anti-rework, it’s that I’m anti-these specific reworks, and pretty down on FFXIV dungeon design broadly. I think that optional dungeons should be allowed to be weird (and also they should start making them again).

yeah it's a circular room and the monster just does generic orange floor aoes now

also making all the 4 person content default single player i feel like just makes the problem worse because ultimately people are going to be forced to play new to them content with a full party of 8 without the experience of like, dying in a low stakes level 17 dungeon and it being fine.

yeah i think them designing their mmo around people who don't actually like mmos is a terrible idea. they design jobs the same way: they keep reworking and simplifying jobs to appeal to people who don't (and won't ever!) play them. at the point where i log in and all my main jobs are less fun.

the game loses something ineffable by reworking terrible ancient dungeons so npcs can do them. its a charm point! the dungeon is optional!
