Beyond survival: Improving lung cancer rehabilitation through standardised outcomes
ExtractLung cancer remains the deadliest form of cancer, responsible for 1.8 million deaths annually, with a growing incidence projected to reach 4.62 million new cases by 2050 [1]. In 20–25% of cases when lung cancer is detected early, curative treatment through surgery is the primary intervention, yielding five-year survival rates between 53% and 93%, depending on the clinical stage [2]. However, even with successful treatment, individuals previously treated for lung cancer continue to experience significant impairments in daily living activities, high levels of dyspnoea and pain, as well as reduced exercise capacity and health-related quality of life [3]. Therefore, it is crucial that our care extends beyond survival alone, addressing the broader burden experienced by survivors.
