While the authors' four part test for identifying authoritarians tells us what we already know, the 8 year old "How Democracies Die" has a lot of timely content. Key for me is it's confirmation that norm breaking began long before tRump (e.g. by Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay)

Credit to Steve Schmidt on Substack for his Bovino/Himmler comparison (and for his other descriptions of the "Little Eichmans" as Steve calls them). There are so many echoes of Nazism in word, deed and action now. I fear that we face many more to come.

The Washington Post was the worst and so I canceled that sub first. Eventually got fed up with the NY Times and canceled that sub too. Every day brings fresh support for those subscription cancelations.

But Bill Maher doesn't think that MAGA folk are racist...and he knows all. And I guess, just because the the MAGAts are perfectly okay with all of this must mean that it's not core fascist racism and therefore they aren't fucking racists aftert all.

I'm embarrassed that I ever liked Bill Maher (although I tell myself that he changed when his show was affected by the pandemic). If we prevail over this Krasnov coup, we will likely repeat the same mistakes we made after the Civil War...this time by forgiving our modern version of the Confederacy.
