Thankfully, I have never had friends or family try to sneak booze into my drinks against my wishes. Even if they didn’t always “get it”, they respected my choice enough to never trick me. Plus, they would really regret it. I used to be quite petty. Those thoughts are still there, but I don’t act on them. But, if someone betrayed me like that… they would regret it.

I’m tired. I’m f**king sick and tired of this life I’ve wallowed in for far too long. I don’t want the last decades of my life to be the same as the decades that came before. How fucking dull and pointless would that be! God! It frustrates me just thinking about it!

...how stupid would Raiders of the Lost Ark be if Indiana Jones just downloaded the Ark via Amazon, only to have it removed from his list because Paramount+ or Disney+ had the original rights and wanted it back…

I was growing tired of social media. Work was wearing on me too much. Financial stress, worrying about how things will get paid, or hoping that using one thing to pay something else will be covered before the end of the month. Plus, the future. Writing. Life. Happiness.

I have also been reflecting on my past, especially my creative past. One of the big things that was missing from those days, when I was working on screenplays and quite productive; social media.

From brain-rotting videos to AI creep, every technological advance seems to make it harder to work, remember, think and function independently …

we use distractions (smartphones, social medias) to not think about our own things. But what is worse? While in our boredom, thinking about things that affect our lives, or being fed a constant stream of doom and gloom from everywhere around the world like funneling sugar to a toddler?

I know I have many things in place to help me be creative and get writing. I have projects to work on, I have three places to set myself down and work, and I know what needs to be done and how to work on them. Yet… I am struggling.

Choosing what is best for us isn’t always easy. Even after you’ve chosen, doing it can be the hardest part, especially when doing it alone, without foolishly comparing yourself to others. You won’t be able to do it like them, you can only do it like you.

There always seems to be an elitism, a feeling of being superior, when writing a book, compared to writing a screenplay. Oh yeah, I know it sounds lame, especially knowing the hardship authors actually face. Perhaps it’s a societal thing. Novels have a rich history and depth. Screenplays are just blueprints for a movie.

After the interview, she asked me about my writing, and I went into more detail. When I finished, she was intrigued about what I had done. She also told me how I had responded to the same subject during our interview. How I had made it sound unimportant, and that it wasn't a big accomplishment, when the truth was, it WAS a big accomplishment!

The Mayo Clinic says boredom can increase creativity and innovation, develop independence and self-reliance, and give us opportunities for self-reflection. But who’s bored these days, when we have our little plastic gods in our hands!

I’m the firm believer that there is always humour in life, even in our darker, sadder moments. Not necessarily bust-a-gut laughing humour, but subtle, quiet humour that, for a moment, takes you out of the darkness, and reminds you life still goes on, for better or worse.

The other week, my brother and I were talking about something and he asked me “I don’t even know who is left or right.”After I responded, I thought back and wondered when I became aware of what, or who, was “left” or “right”. I realized that labeling which side of the political spectrum I landed on wasn’t something I thought about until the past few years, when both sides have become more polarized by the other side’s actions.

Regular jobs... instilled into me a strong work ethic that has carried over through the various jobs I’ve had. So with this blog, I thought I’d talk about my non-writing work, and how it has shaped my creative output.
