Interested in stuff that makes life better - beer, blues and kultur. Supporter of various unremitting mediocre rugby league and football clubs
Rugby league is back on tv for the first time in 2026. Watching Thatto Heath v Seaton in the Challenge Cup. Unfortunately it's rather one sided with Thatto Heath 20-0 up scoring at a point a minute. Are Seaton the oldest amateur club? Recall watching them at Eastern Rhinos a decade ago

Terrific game between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund. Shared 6 goals including 2 in injury time. Incredible to think that one of the Eintracht scorers, Younes Ebnoutalib, was playing in the 4th division regionalliga only 2 years ago.

2 returning TV faves watched by Mrs Taff and myself tonight. Father Brown had more edge than usual including the laundries for fallen women in its storyline. It is an annual joy in dark January. It will be interesting to see if the 2nd season of Matlock is as strong as the 1st. Jury is out so far

It has been a horrible start to 2026 and it is easy to be overwhelmed by the cruelty we see. Seeing the clips of the Walk for Peace by the Buddhist monks from Texas to Washington DC has brought a tears to my eyes. The love rolling from the roadside to them has been wonderful and reviving to see

Enjoyed watching the movie "Relay", but is that the longest time in a film until the lead character speaks. Riz Ahmed doesn't open his mouth until some way into the second half

Millwall start the year with a goalless draw. Who could have predicted that?

Last game of 2025 for @brentwoodtownfc.bsky.social at Welling United. Won 4-1 which was pleasing. Also visited the Door Hinge Micropub. Nice place and thoroughly enjoyed the New River Blind Poet Porter

Watched Planes Trains and Automobiles for the first time in well over 30 years. Held up pretty well. Still very funny.

Last home game for @brentwoodtownfc.bsky.social today against Potters Bar Town. Similar to the Hashtag game. Dominated possession, plenty of chanes, but a real struggle to get the end product. I had hoped this run of games would see the Blues regain confidence, but it's not quite happening

Another numbing performance from Millwall. I know they have injuries, but a lack of zip and creativity in the midfield is nothing new. Do the full backs turn to salt if they cross the halfway line?

Very attractive Mauldons pint glasses in the Victoria Arms tonight. The contents (Black Adder) are great too

Really pleased third season of Dark Winds is showing on U&Alibi. One of my favourite shows and the first episode did not disappoint. Also touching to see Robert Redford's last performance on a show where he was executive producer.

Rather disappointing 2-2 draw for @brentwoodtownfc.bsky.social tonight against Cheshunt. Gone to the Peasants Revolt Micropub for a couple of pints of Mighty Oak Wonky Donkey to commiserate

Day trip to Lewes today for @brentwoodtownfc.bsky.social away game. Terrific place. Enjoyed some gorgeous pints at The John Harvey Tap near the Brewery. The ground, The Dripping Pan, was very characterful. We list 4-2 but not too despondent. It was definitely worth it.

Picked the last of the tomatoes 🍅 today. Crazy that that is still possible on 2nd November.

Last day of the holiday saw a trip to Falkland Palace and the Scottish Deer Centre. At the latter I was super excited to see not one not two but three Scottish Wildcats. Never even seen one before. Got in some good reindeer action too

We have been staying at Hill of Tarvit, an Edwardian property run by @n-t-s.bsky.social. On our penultimate day we went on a tour. We also went to Kellie Castle, a stronghold renovated at the end of the 19th century in an arts and crafts style for a tour. Weather was awful but tours fascinating.

My Scottish culinary odyssey continues. Had a chicken and haggis ciabatta for lunch. Tonight it was a fish supper. Washed down with irn bru of course

Trip to Perth today. Lovely place. Scone Palace was good and saw the place Scottish Kings were traditionally crowned. @perthmuseum was wonderful. Fascinating galleries set out with thought and decency. Highlight was the Stone of Destiny itself, which was tastefully displayed.

Took the train to Dundee yesterday. Didn't venture far into the city as Discovery Point and the V&A are right next to the station. Discovery Point, a museum about polar expedition containing Cpt Scott's Ship, is fascinating. V&A is a wonderful building, but the exhibitions did not do much for me

Trip into Edinburgh yesterday. Visited the castle, but it was a bit too busy to be enjoyable. Took a tour around Gladstone's Land, a tenement through time, which was fascinating. Also had my first ever irn bru float in their café, which was great.

Spent the day in Cupar and St Andrews. Arrived in the latter in time to see students dowsing themselves in foam. Cathedral was closed, but enjoyed the castle and aquarium. Had my first ever Stornoway Stack for lunch. Fantastic. Muffin, haggis, black pudding poached egg and hollandaise sauce.
