I was 6 and my sister was 4 when my mom walked us along the ~.7 mile route to our elementary school a couple of times and then about 2 weeks in just had me lead my sister from then on (though she shadowed us the first couple of times to make sure).

Also relies on the premise that workers today actually make minimum wage. Most Americans live in states with higher state minimum wages (and they'd be making additional money through OT premiums at a 60 hour week), and even states w/o that, the functional market minimum wage is ~$10.00+

Doubtful, given that the canon is that humanity needed to have separate genders in part because of our flaws, so God would be of no gender.

Yeah, the real lesson to learn is that every chamber is a Holy Roman Empire style minor fiefdom with a whole suite of their own little quibbles.

All of which is imminently fixable at a legal front because it's all purely a product of the post-2000 climate, but is nearly impossible on a social front because a lot of parents are cooking their brains on parent facebook chats.

Plus it's the kind of bonfire that actually approaches a significant hit to the Ellison family's liquidity, especially if the AI bubble bursts.

Which loops back around to Miller's core advantage. If you don't see the law as a system of rules, but rather just a bunch of human beings exercising power, the realization that the current Supreme Court will just let you do what you want sets in a lot faster.
sashotodorov.bsky.social
This is true, but it's equally true that none of that has mattered because the trial courts issue detailed rulings based on the facts and the law and then the Supreme Court immediately jumps in to issue an unsupported ruling that Trump gets to do what he wants.

I have a client who still owes me north of $15,000 for an arbitration case where the opposing side was seeking to tank a company just by not complying with the arbitrator's order. Like, "these are just words and it's going to bankrupt you to make me obey them" is, in fact, a viable strategy.

The primary problem particularly with elite lawyers is that they see the law as a set of self-effectuating rules that automatically governs society as compared to a set of words that people mostly just follow because it's expected. Anyone who has dealt with a pro se knows otherwise.

IMO the fact that Miller doesn't have a graduate or law degree is why he's been able to seize so much power out the gate.

And the issue there is that the player demographics for PC and console gaming, i.e. the games that can actually be called cultural works, remain predominately male and often pretty unpleasant to deal with.

It's not really a secret that your connect 3 / Zynga / Cabela market has long been a majority of revenue and almost certainly a disproportionate share of profits given low cost to revenue ratios. But those aren't the games you go into the industry to make, or that you want to discuss.

In effect, it elides the "video game" industry into one category to appear to reveal a hidden truth, when in reality the issue is that there's an electronic entertainment industry and what we could consider to be the "true" video game industry.
sashotodorov.bsky.social
This has been true for two decades, since the initial smartphone boom. The wider dynamic has been in place for even longer, e.g. the "Cabela Hunter" or "find the hidden object" games you used to be able to buy for $10 at Best Buy. The problem is that this doesn't apply to core gaming.

He lived just long enough to order the 1994 Quad Studios shooting.

Yeah, laziji really works at sub-popcorn chicken size.

A massively underrated soft career skill is learning how to effectively police how many cooks enter the kitchen on key documents.
sashotodorov.bsky.social
It really, really, *really* helps soft power wise to have a decent spread of people around the professional cocktail party circuit who have decent connections to you/decent memories of working as expats.
sashotodorov.bsky.social
An underrated aspect of UAE soft power is that they opened up their white collar professional market to all comers. Switzerland had zero allies when the hammer finally sort of came down in 2010 on US taxpayers with Swiss accounts because they kept their sectors as firmly walled gardens.

Wnat strikes me about this is that a lot of this industry was fairly run of the mill insta influencers, not even people really enmeshed in the true high end escort industry. That that crowd has mostly kept shush is genuinely pretty remarkable.

The depressing irony in all of this is that Brad Lander is probably the condorcet winner this year. One of the reasons why approval voting (check all the people you like, top two check getters go to a run off), IMO, is superior to ranked choice.

IMO the most endearing trait of Doom is that it takes its stupid plot seriously. It would be much less entertaining if they did the usual self-aware slop.

I get why Dems picked this fight, but the biggest issue in US politics is that voters simply have never actually had to face the costs of GOP bad governance and now we're going to bail the GOP out through the midterms.
sashotodorov.bsky.social
Which is pretty disastrous given that it means Dems most likely (1) won't have the reps required to do another extension after they win the house in 2026 and (2) it means we inherit a true financial crisis if we win in 2029.
