Losing the battle with entropy. She/They
Let's hope this particular ballroom has a similar effect on the Trump administration as that one had on the Titanic! 🤞

So they're easily led by charismatic people offering simple answers, and by the idea of a "protest vote" against the traditional main parties. Which should in theory make a chunk of them open to being swayed towards the Greens as long as they haven't gone too far down the "anti woke" pipeline.

Oh the popularity of Reform absolutely is in large part down to political ignorance! It's easy to despair at the idea that huge swathes of the country are horrible racists, but really a lot of them are just clueless, they know things aren't going well for the country but don't understand why.

True, but government coffers can be boosted in lots of ways apart from "creating money" out of thin air, such as investing in things that bring more money into the economy or which save the government money in other areas (e.g. lifting people out of poverty can save money spent on health, crime etc)

Yeah we have them round us and they don't "force anyone into the road". Pretty sure they're programmed to give humans and vehicles right of way, they seem to be very "cautious"! The people in the video are choosing to walk around it, just like you might do with a slower pedestrian on the pavement.

It pauses, then navigates around the obstacle. We have these round us, never heard of any issues (though we're in the suburbs without tons of pedestrians). In this video you can see it pausing when a person approaches, but as those people walk past it starts again.

Definitely not anything like soup! A steamed pudding like that will have a kind of cakey texture. They're pretty common in traditional British cooking, although have fallen out of fashion in recent years.

Somehow in American English the word mostly got attached to a very specific custardy dessert, which is almost unheard of in the UK!
November 27, 2025 at 9:32 PM
As time went on they began to be boiled in cloth bags more than animal guts, and sweet puddings became more popular than savoury ones. Then people started steaming them in pudding basins (bowls designed for the purpose). And the word pudding generalised to cover all desserts in British English.
November 27, 2025 at 9:32 PM
The word "pudding" originally meant something more like a steamed sausage-like thing, basically things stuffed inside animal innards and boiled or steamed over the cooking pot. The closest dishes still being eaten are haggis and "pease pudding" (dried peas boiled in a cloth in ham broth).
November 27, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Just sounds like a fairly standard (if a little boring) steamed pudding to me, which is very different to what most Americans call "pudding" these days. It most definitely won't be "sloppy" unless something has gone very wrong, it would have more of a cakey texture.

That's a great graph for illustrating just how unequal things currently are! The bottom 40% are barely even visible on the graph of the "actual" share of wealth!

Yes, I've noticed this with a few journalists, actually, I've got the feeling they seem to respect him and appreciate a politician who is good at actually answering the questions and giving intelligent answers!

I thought this was a great interview! And v good for the Greens to get that "big political interview the day after the budget" slot! Zack just sounded like a sensible, normal, intelligent person, which really shouldn't be unusual in a politician but here we are!

It's a "real terms" tax increase, if your wages rise in line with inflation and it pushes you into a new tax band, you will certainly feel poorer. You will have less money to spend because your wage increase was supposed to allow for increased prices, but an chunk of that has now gone in taxes.
November 27, 2025 at 12:54 PM
Hit is a perfectly normal term to use to describe something like this, it just means it's sudden and impactful, it doesn't imply violence or even necessarily something negative. I could say "it hit me" when talking about having a great idea.

And only certain sections of those struggling will be helped, those who have been affected by the 2 child cap will be better off but others won't necessarily be.

Where are you getting £100/150k from? The frozen income tax thresholds will affect people at all levels from the basic rate threshold upwards. Someone on a very low income may find themselves pushed into paying income tax just due to inflation, but they won't be any wealthier in real terms.
November 27, 2025 at 12:47 PM
Yeah this doesn't even make sense, if you're on £100k between you, don't have a mortgage, are able to save £12 grand a year tax free plus more money available to put into savings and investments, I don't really see the problem. Don't they have pensions? My heart bleeds for them.

What ridiculous "logic": "you don't like turkey because if you did you'd be roasting whole turkeys all the time"... Um, no, people are not roasting turkeys all the time because they're fucking massive, so unless you've got 8 kids or something it would be a stupid amount of food!
November 27, 2025 at 3:57 AM
I think the key part there is "well roasted", a lot of people are bad at cooking turkey (which to be fair, is understandable, as it's such a large bird and most people only cook them once a year!). It's very easy to end up with underflavoured dry meat if you're not careful.
November 26, 2025 at 5:37 PM
Unfortunately there are some who will only take the problem seriously when it's happening to white people, especially those from "friendly" countries like the UK. I hope those people see this and it makes them stop and think for a moment, and maybe even find more empathy for brown ICE victims.

I love that there's a trend towards older ppl taking on risky protests, we've got the same in the UK with Palestine Action, where retirees are putting themselves on the line, getting arrested for peaceful protest. It works well, nobody wants to see someone's grandma dragged off by cops.
