Going "ooh well I wouldn't pretend to know what the answer is for gay people being ok or not" wouldn't be a laudable position, and nor is doing the same for trans people.

They're not settled in the sense that there are plenty of transphobes out there, just as "is it ok to be queer?" or "should women be allowed to vote?" aren't settled. But, also like those questions, it's settled in that there is a correct answer; the one I just told you.

Also "I don't pretend to know the answer for trans individuals" is an admission of ignorance, so it's a bit funny to then complain about me suggesting you're ignorant.

But, I'll help enlighten you: the answer for trans individuals is the same as for everyone else.

My mum has NEVER gotten over being made to go to a special Phishing Awareness Training thing after she clicked on the link in a phishing email from her IT department. Mostly because she’d followed proceedure and forwarded the email originally as a probable phishing scam…only to be told by the IT department that it wasn’t, it was an official email, and she should click through and respond.

So she did and, lo and behold, it was a fake phishing email and she got sent to a seminar. That was a few years ago and to this day she swears the IT guy just wanted to hit enough people to schedule a training day and get his lunch catered.

The bus stop is five minutes walk away? Well all I have to do is put my laptop away, find my keys, put on my shoes, decide what I'm taking with me, find it all, put it in my bag, leave the flat, and go downstairs. Each of those things takes zero time, 0 + 0 = 0, so I only need five minutes total.

A large part of my ADHD symptoms basically manifest as rounding every time interval either up to infinity, or down to zero.

I've got a whole *day* off work? That's so much time! I can afford to spend half of it doing nothing and I'll easily be able to do all my admin backlog in the afternoon!

hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.

Nobody's dictating to them how they can identify. They're just pointing out that many of them are racist. Comparing "calling many members of a deeply racist society racists" to transphobia is pretty horrible, in my opinion.

But the entire thing is irrelevant anyway. Even if 99% of Americans were opposed to 'allowing' trans people to exist, so what? I'm not, so I'm not going to get upset about the GOP accusing people of being in favour of it.

A toddler doesn't need any sort of medical treatment, reversible or otherwise, to transition gender, so I don't see that that's relevant.
