🛰️Satellites communications are cool!!! Follow me for more cute scientific facts about satellites!! #sciencesky #science #satellites #satellite #satellites_communication #network
Satellites 🛰️ are diligently orbiting the Earth even right now! Don’t you want to see how they are doing? You can check how LEOs are moving in this website that I put in the thread! You can even select specific satellites you want to search, or set a speed that you want to see how they are working!

Have you ever seen a little dot in the sky, got so excited thinking it was star, and found out it was a satellite? It's so disappointing, I know. In reality, astronomers hate SpaceX satellites for the similar reasons. Look at this picture!

To get into satellite communications, there are two simple terms to learn! They are "uplink“⬆️ and "downlink"⬇️. "Uplink" is a link connected to send data/signal from ground stations on the ground to satellites up in the sky. So it's upward!

We use GPS a lot in our everyday life. Most of the popular map application such as maps, google maps, and etc are using GPS. GPS stands for Global Positioning System. But did you know all GPS are provided by MEO satellites? We are using satellites this close in our life!

Unlike other satellites, GEO satellites float at the fixed position in the sky! If you look up, you can always find it at the same position! This is because the GEO satellites are rotating the Earth at the same speed of Earth rotation so it looks like it's fixed for us!

There are three major satellites categories. 🛰️🛰️🛰️

1. Low Earth Orbit satellites (LEO)
: less than about 2,000km from the Earth

2. Medium Earth Orbit satellites (MEO)
: about 2,000~36,000km from Earth

3. Geostationary satellites (GEO)
: about 35,786km from the Earth

Isn't it cool that a GEO Satellite can cover 1/3 of the entire Earth? That makes my heart beat!!!
