The document has been used to justify anything and everything under the sun. Slavery. 3/4ths compromise. War. Genocide. Jim Crow. Oppression. Imperialism. It doesn't represent any "American values". It's a document written to maintain the ruling classes class dictatorship. 2/3

The Commune's lesson is not that we need less organization, but that the working class needs a more determined, more centralized, and politically clear revolutionary organization to seize the entire state and economic apparatus, break it, and replace it with a democratic working class dictatorship.

To blame its "hierarchical" nature is an idealist distortion. The question is not the existence of organization and authority, a revolution is the most authoritative act imaginable, but which class wields that authority and for what purpose, and for what class ends.

The Communards did not grasp that the state is "a special organization of force for the suppression of one class by another." They thought they could use parts of the old machinery or appeal to a universal "justice." The bourgeoisie understood it was a class war. They showed no such hesitation.

No. The Paris Commune failed for a myriad of reasons not because it was a "hierarchical institution". It failed primarily because it was not ruthless enough in its application of revolutionary force and did not understand the full logic of the bourgeois state it was trying to dismantle.

It is the CIA, the FBI, and every bourgeois terrorist institution that sanitizes and wields state violence to crush dissent. A real communist fights for working class democracy and internationalism, not celebrating their own comrades being executed by an ultra violent bureaucracy.

The most brain-dead reactionary argument that is always thrown at me for being a communist is that I should just leave the country.
