Star formation is coming back to Poland! I couldn't be more excited about this. Dr Agata Karska is hiring a PhD at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, funded from the SONATA BIS grant of @ncn.gov.pl
The expected starting date is October 1. Deadline for applications: July 1!

The "No Kings" organizers say that there are more than 1,800 protests planed for tomorrow.: www.nokings.org

We'll have journalists at several of them, but you can tag @motherjones.com with your clips and tips.

The evidence for biosignatures on K2-18b is flimsy, at best

Last week, Cambridge scientists announced the discovery of DMS and DMDS on K2-18b: what they call a "surefire biosignature."

Now, cut through the hype and get to the truth.

The evidence for biosignatures on K2-18b is flimsy, at best
A Cambridge-based team claims to find molecules on an exoplanet that are only produced by life on Earth. Don't fall for the unfounded hype.

The data produced by this group has been an essential resource for so much great science. We use their data and websites to interpret our JWST spectra of protostars. It is exactly the kind of foundational investments the US should be making to advance science. www.change.org/p/oppose-the...

I've now heard from a colleague that one of their awarded NASA grants was terminated. These grants have previously undergone peer review and work has already begun, canceling them is completely unwarranted!

#NASAWebb provides detailed views of Herbig-Haro 49/50—an outflow from the jet of a nearby still-forming star. This science visualization flies along the outflow and demonstrates how it actually has no relationship to the more distant spiral galaxy: webbtelescope.pub/4iGQg9K 🔭 🧪

MIRI observations of ISM/nebula are really something! 🔭

This is a recent observation of the HOPS-75 object in the Orion Nebula. The data were obtained through the program led by @megadeath.bsky.social

This is the first full NIRCam field for the HEFE large program on JWST. It’s part of a region of active star formation north of the Orion Nebula, near the top of Orion’s sword.
Young stars tantrums are quite violent, as you may already know. Here are some example as seen by the JWST! 🔭

This is HOPS383, in Orion, and its surroundings. You can spot different new stars in the making, at the centre of each jets that can be seen here and there.
