Also, to preempt anyone from trying to say the differences between the sports render such comparisons moot: if we look at the NFL's 16+ game era, the difference in concentration of wins pre- and post-salary cap is not statistically significant (and is actually slightly less competitive, if anything)

Think we're doing well to move towards the route itself as being the main volume unit, rather than the catch/target. Which isn't to say yards per catch or target aren't useful, but I'd argue their use is to measure specific parts of receiver play rather than as a proxy for overall receiver quality.

There are also some serious problems with it when just viewing it isolation, without regard for target volume, since it treats the receiver who earned an incomplete target or caught a failed completion as doing considerably worse than his 4 teammates who ran routes & didn't get a target on the play.

Hi! Just an FYI that Chrome, Firefox and most other browsers have a reading mode that gives you just the text in a simpler format that should be easier to read. Hope that's helpful!

Jones definitely had a brutally bad supporting cast with the Giants, but while it's probably true his stats would have been better with more talent around him, it's a huge stretch to say his stats would have been *good* with more talent around him.

Among the 76 quarterbacks with at least 320 plays, Jones ranks 47th in EPA/play (-0.001 on 2961 plays), while Richardson is 53rd (-.024, 494) (rbsdm.com/stats/stats/)

Richardson probably isn't going to be a good pro, but we already can be almost certain Jones isn't one. I'd rather the mystery box that probably doesn't have what I want than the known commodity I can see isn't what I want.

Also hard not to think of the overlap between those holding the latter position and the people who loudly considered Viacom to be the villain for suing a nascent YouTube years ago.

Earnest thanks to you for being a rare voice of reason on this topic, Mike.
