Yeah and Cameron definitely leans that way with his comments on the Lakota as a “dead end society”

The equivalent of “well we cancelled wolfenstein bc we don’t want to offend skinheads”

This is like one of the only things I think that would get me to go out of my way to buy a new assassins creed lol (i say knowing I probably would like Yasuke from what I’ve heard)

Ubisoft canceled an ‘ASSASSINS CREED’ game set in the post-Civil War era

• Featured a Black Assassin who was formerly a slave

• Players would fight the emerging KKK

• Leadership canceled it after concerns with U.S. political climate & Yasuke backlash

I can’t listen to audiobooks of some of his books bc I completely forget where we are after hearing 7 minutes of description of a medicine cabinet

*I mostly mean that if the idea of affirmation is hidden rather than clearly stated and brought up without cryptic language, then you should be wary rather than that there’s a checklist
scaredbisexual.bsky.social
I also think the very nature of intersectionality often means focusing on other aspects of inclusion also signifies being open and affirming
scaredbisexual.bsky.social
I don’t think it’s a checklist but more that it’s a red flag when churches hide it in the fine print so I do think saying open and affirming in a website is an example of a good sign as well as mentioning it when relevant.

Not to mention all the great deep diving into archives and helping keep underseen films alive even if just a little bit.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

Just continue to pay attention and support library workers esp since they are increasingly targeted in the legislature and by conservative groups, even facing daily harassment and threats. It’s esp prevalent in public libraries
scaredbisexual.bsky.social
During banned book week it’s important to remember that it can go beyond even the banning as so many state laws are being introduced that target libraries for the mere thought of allowing queer friendly, racially conscious material in children’s sections.

Something very telling is how Mormon leaders often send ppl to sex counselors for “porn addiction” and a few actually accredited therapists lost church membership bc they didn’t go along with the church’s framing of purity culture and “porn addiction”
scaredbisexual.bsky.social
If only. Tbf there are some church directories that just suggest particular actual qualified professionals with a faith background and that’s usually fine but also there’s been increasing cut ties with that

Which is not to say you can’t toss a classic on the display (I think there’s an argument to be made about how long we’ve been having this fight), but it will hit harder when it’s the books your patrons are more likely to check out.

And I’m sure not all life coaches are bad and all but again there’s not a safety net which has led to scammers and even worse situations
scaredbisexual.bsky.social
Yeah and like there are some with actual qualifications but then there’s religious life coaching which has little to no regulation and certainly not an actual ethics board. From what I’ve seen life coaching is getting more popular in some fundie and Mormon circles too.

There’s also that they rely on god for bringing ppl to healing and religion *can* be healing. But telling someone with ocd that there’s specific rules god gives to be in his good graces doesn’t help. It also doesn’t help to just tell someone to pray their anxieties away without other coping tools
scaredbisexual.bsky.social
Just like they think there is clear sin and godliness they think there is brokenness and being fixed and think there’s an end goal to therapy. It’s esp bad for coping with abuse trauma and depression.
