Unfortunately, Dave can't make it to the show, so it'll just be me and Bob for this one. But we'll still have a spooky old time, no matter what! :)

DRAMARAMA SPOOKY - THE KEEPER (1983): Alan (The Owl Service) Garner wrote this brilliant episode of the supernatural anthology for kids. Two ghost hunters bite off more than they can chew during an overnight vigil at a haunted cottage...
A chilling, atmospheric episode with a hell of an ending.

Absolutely. I was reading SW Weekly long after I'd lost interest in Star Wars, thanks to Adam Warlock, Guardians of the Galaxy, Starlord, and bleak stories like this.

Written by David Anthony Kraft and drawn by Herb Trimpe, Klaus Janson, and Pablo Marcos.

UFO CONNECTION (Marvel Preview #13, 1978): Pyramid power! This dark, claustrophobic strip about a man and his daughter on the run from aliens would have gone unnoticed on these shores, but its appearance as a backup strip in Star Wars Weekly meant that young fans got to enjoy the bleak ending too.

It still stands up! It's an astonishing piece of drama. I watched it again last year, and it still creeps me out more than any just about any horror film from the last ten years.

It's from Knights if God, a great 80s dystopian kids' show!

Absolutely! It's not as if these were bland, safe adverts, either. The JCC Sugar Puffs ads were suitably bonkers!

John Cooper Clarke, the Salford-born 'punk poet' genius with a razor-sharp mind who performed on bills with Sex Pistols, The Fall, Joy Division and more, and who struggled with heroin addiction, was partnered with Honey Monster as they advertised Sugar Puffs in the 80s. Well, of course!

Definitely Matt! Cheeky old Dan, ripping off his IP! ;)

A dog eaten alive by Death Bugs, bad guys burned alive by our hero, and more bleak endings! The Galaxy's Greatest Comic's first Xmas annual was a real corker (2/2)
scarredforlife.bsky.social
The first 2000 AD annual (1977) gave me the fear when I was 7. Ultraviolence, animal attacks (Shako, the only bear on the CIA hit list!), and bleak endings galore! (1/2)

Screen Test was home to some great little spooky short films! It seems an awful lot of the episodes may have been wiped... :(

ESCAPE FROM COLDITZ (1973): Beautiful, complex, and controversial board game that boasted the real-life British Escape Officer, Major Pat Reid, as its technical adviser, and featured a honking great swastika on the box (wisely replaced by an Iron Eagle in future revisions)
