The next morning, a photo of that model is on the front page of the Washington Post - the designs for the Eisenhower memorial shown for the first time. It's a big story!

Inset into the article, I spot a photo of the man who sat down next to me – the memorial's architect, Frank Gehry.

"Eisenhower, I think" the old man interjects.

"Oh, well, I suppose it's appropriate then that the part in the back looks like a freeway ramp"

The old man chuckles, and we exchange a few more pleasantries and musings about architecture before I'm finally able to get in and do my job.

"What did you think of the presentation?" he asks.
