In my own tech job I've worked with many Indian, Chinese, and nationals from other counties. I've also interviewed many. They tend to be stronger engineers than native born (white) Americans. White Americans also tend to have a higher regard for themselves than is justified by their abilities.

This is one Noah post I don't need to read. It's so blindingly obviously true, the only reasons to object are either racism or because a loser wants to blame someone for their own lack of success.

while with LLMs, they are a fundamentally new thing, and thinking in terms of "classic" NLP shines the light on many cases where they are not-that-great (or not-that-great-yet), while distracting from considerations of their actual potential for radically new things.
