So Well Done @schumer.senate.gov !

The government is shut down because Trump and the Republicans are hellbent on taking health care away from you.

And they won’t even come to the table to talk to us about it.

This is not about politics. It's about people.

Let’s break it down:

PEOPLE OVER POLITICS. Healthcare is life or death for MILLIONS of Americans.

Donald Trump really wants us to believe:

There’s not enough money to fix ACA healthcare premiums

There’s not enough money for Air Traffic Controllers

But there’s somehow $20 billion available to bail out Argentina?!
schumer.senate.gov
FIVE FAILED VOTES.

Senate Republicans do not have the votes to pass their bill.

They need to come to the table and negotiate now to reopen the government and bring down healthcare costs.

They’re the only ones who seem to think we can’t do both.

Mike Johnson’s actions speak louder than his words.

He doesn’t care about protecting healthcare.

He’s protecting Trump from the Epstein files.
A headline from The Daily Beast reads: Johnson Trips Over Words When Cornered On Epstein Files.
schumer.senate.gov
Whatever Speaker Johnson says:

He sent the House home for YET ANOTHER WEEK because he cares more about protecting the Epstein files than he does about protecting the American people.
schumer.senate.gov
That’s right.

Speaker Johnson and the House Republicans aren’t bringing the House back next week again.

They care more about protecting the EPSTEIN FILES than protecting health care for the American people.
schumer.senate.gov
It. Is. Simple.

Republicans can reopen the government and make people’s health care more affordable at the same time.

They’re choosing not to.

This is their shutdown.

Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are out of town again next week

Because they care more about protecting the Epstein files than protecting the American people

Americans know it: Trump wants this shutdown

and Republicans are following his orders to maximize pain.

Democrats will keep fighting to save health care for all Americans.
schumer.senate.gov
Yes to ballrooms. No to healthcare for Americans. Got it.
A headline from People reads: “White House Will Continue Construction on 90,000-Square-Foot Ballroom During Government Shutdown”

To everyone observing in the Jewish community in New York, across America, and around the world: G’mar Chatima Tovah

During this time of renewal and reflection, my family and I are wishing you an easy and meaningful fast this Yom Kippur.
schumer.senate.gov
IT’S MIDNIGHT.

That means the Republican shutdown has just begun because they wouldn’t protect Americans’ health care.

We’re going to keep fighting for the American people.
schumer.senate.gov
Republicans JUST VOTED DOWN our bill to avoid a government shutdown at midnight and address the healthcare needs of the American people.

Republicans are plunging us into a government shutdown rather than fixing their healthcare crisis.
schumer.senate.gov
Republicans know the American people want the REPUBLICAN HEALTHCARE CRISIS fixed.

But Republicans are about to shut the government down instead of fixing it.
schumer.senate.gov
Donald Trump says that a shutdown is a tremendously negative mark on the president.

But he’d rather shut the government down than protect your health care.
schumer.senate.gov
This shutdown is in Trump’s hands.

He admitted in the room today that the president gets the blame for a shutdown.

Americans are facing a crisis of rising health care costs. If the government shuts down, it’s because Republicans would rather shut it down rather than help people afford health care.
schumer.senate.gov
Portland is not “war ravaged.” U.S. troops are not political playthings. And Trump is not a king.

Democrats will fight in Congress to stop him.
schumer.senate.gov
Donald Trump is making health care in America more expensive. He's about to shut down the government over it. And he's about to send the price of prescription drugs even higher with his new tariffs.

We've demanded Republicans sit down and talk with us for two months—but Donald Trump said to ignore the Democrats.

By refusing to meet with us, Trump is barreling America toward a government shutdown.

He's not being president. And he's not up to the job.
schumer.senate.gov
Donald Trump loves to talk tough, but when he has to actually lead, negotiate, or deliver—he runs away.

He runs. He hides. He ignores.

That’s not strength. That’s weakness.

This is going to be Donald Trump’s shutdown.
