We are no longer seen as an equalitarian democracy, a nation that is a model to be emulated. Instead, we are seen as a nation notable for its corruption, its fascism, and its grotesquely distorted wealth disparity. Here is a very interesting view of America from Spain.

There are American children who, to this day, are still being educated by the trust he established over two centuries ago. Almost all of this was so anonymous that you have probably never been taught or read about any of it.

What did he do with his wealth and fame? He created the first hospital, the first firefighting company, the first library, the first insurance company, the first public park, created philanthropy in the United States, and advocated for the end of slavery.

Think about this for a minute. Benjamin Franklin came from a working-class background, got only an eighth-grade education, yet became the best-known American in the world, and a rich man.

Second, the internet, which is a sewer of weaponized misinformation. As a result, in the United States, particularly for younger Americans, there is little or no belief in the integrity and reliability of any media.

That world, as this report lays out, is gone. Why? In my view for two reasons. First, all the papers and magazines have been bought by billionaires who demand a certain perspective in their publications, and the firewall between the editorial division and the news division no longer exists.

The news divisions of all those papers were a different world from the editorial division. Owners did not get involved with the news division. And because readers knew and believed this to be true, those newspapers and magazines were respected and considered reliable sources of information.

Why is this happening? The study gives us a fact-based answer. Because under “king” Trump and his followers the United States is becoming a fascist nation.
