And explicitly banned Roblox the minute I looked at it a decade ago. I have maintained that ban with two kids and the more I see about it, the happier I am with that decision.

I figured anything that looked that much like a cynical cash grab aimed at kids had to cheap out on T&S.

I had the privilege of listening to you read from it at Worldcon this year and...

Can confirm, this is gonna be a hell of a ride!

So much this. The world sucks, and superheros are supposed to make it BETTER.

Watchemen was great for deconstructing the genre, but it sure as fuck wasn't a goddamn BLUEPRINT for how every superhero comic should be for the next 40 years!

For the book you read from at worldcon?

The post-ownership world sucks like this. I don't miss the space that physical media takes up.. but damn I miss that feeling of "this is mine, Joe Corpoface can't take it away from me on a whim."

Found the same on apple music in the US.

As an analyst who has to deal with time systems and aggregating SLA across six different time zones…..

I fucking hate time systems. So much.

My favorite bullshit is having to aggregate on a weekly function and then constantly having to explain the week 53 problem. Every. Fucking. Year.

does this fit into "the failure mode of clever is asshole," or "maybe I need to re-think my position..." territory?
November 13, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Hey, Martha unblocked you? Fantastic!

Well fuck. There’s another author whose work I like on the racist shitlist.

Never trust the Mariners. The will always break your heart. This was just their version of passing the ball at the 1-yard line.

ooh, expanding on the stellar drift, supernovae and planetary nebula expansion could also be good clues.
November 6, 2025 at 9:36 PM
if one has access to their star charts/stellar data, then stellar drift from the point at which the charts were made could be a reasonable indicator.

Cosmic ray exposure on the hull.

if the engine has any radioactive components/energy sources that can be identified, isotopic ratio is still avail

I didn't even know that existed, and now I've had to turn it off. fuck idiots thinking I can't handle someone being RUDE.
November 6, 2025 at 6:09 PM
ooh, I liked the two of her TOS novels I read when I was a kid a LOT. They really expanded Trek beyond the bridge crew and were concerned with people on the Lower Decks. "Battlestations!" and "Dreadnought!" if I recall correctly..

The same idiots will nod sagely if you tell them that taking customer service calls in a southern accent changes customer reactions.

White people code switching is real but god forbid someone brown does it…

Goodness. I didn't realize Maine Coons took so long to reach full growth. I suppose it makes sense, being bigger and all... but she's already enormous!
