A favorite tactic to discredit #science is to try and drag it down as just another “belief” system.

So, I would take a minute during my demos to explain to my audiences the difference between gathering, evaluating and presenting evidence and “belief”, telling them how:

I’ve stated so many times that people like Dolly Parton, as well as Jimmy Carter, are why I’m not antitheist, even though I’m atheist.

I know there are good christians trying to live up to the teachings.

I would feel so “blessed” and elated to have an owl outside our bedroom window.

Had been looking for over a year to see one again, despite hearing them in the woods nearby.

Then this Barred Owl just decided to nap in a tree right over our mailboxes, only a couple of days ago.

4th grade teacher had a table in our classroom with over a dozen of these. They were my introduction to a lot of classic literature.

Herb Alpert’s soundtrack was the only good thing about it.

The question came up at pub trivia, about a year ago: Who played Bond in the 1966(?) version of Casino Royale.

Guessing from the collective “WTF!!”, only a few of us in the entire bar had ever seen it.
