Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus)

Scientific name comes from geo- (Greek for "ground") and coccyx (Latin for "cuckoo," also derived from Greek). They can run about 20mph, and I finally got to see one in person at the Brookfield Zoo.

Kiwi (using the most common North Island Brown Kiwi as the example, Apteryx mantelli). The genus name comes from Greek a- "without" and pteryx "wing."

Another of my favorites, but found locally. The scientific name comes from agelaius (Greek for "gregarious") and phoinikos (Greek for "red").

Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae)

One of my favorite birds of all time, and the largest species of kingfisher. I took this photo at the Columbus Zoo in 2016.
