This black-and-white photograph captures an old, narrow wooden shutter door deeply set into a thick, ancient stone wall. The bark of a large redwood tree, at eye level, has finer scale cracks for texture where burl-wood swells. Sprouts of needle-like leaves are barely visible in bright green, coming from the burl in a couple of spots.

We've got a close crop in portrait orientation of a simple rectangular window set into the beige-coloured, rendered wall of a house on a bright, sunny day. The recess for the window is fairly shallow and the sun is high and to the left of us so there's a small, dark shadow within the left and upper sides of the frame. The window has been blocked up but artwork has been applied that makes it look like a painting of an open sash window peering into a room with warm-toned walls and a cooler ceiling, curtains tied back either side of the window, and a middle-aged woman in light-coloured nightdress and bonnet inside, by the window, but looking down at her hands rather than out at us.

Monday night, clear and the aurora was impressive. I saw green with pillars and then amazing ripples and waves across the Big Dipper and a fairly wide sky. 23:45 Alaska ST

Easy hike out to the "Giant spruce of Cape Perpetua" today, estimated to be 550+ years old with a 40 ft trunk circumference. The seedling originally grew on a nurse tree, so has a tunnel under the roots. A great tree.

A portrait style photo with a short-haired human with a brown jacket and a white dog standing in front of a tunnel at the base of a large, mossy trunk of an old growth Sitka spruce. The trunk then extends up towards the sky, too tall to see the top even though it broke off in the 1960s. Some type of fern is halfway up the visible trunk on the left, just as the moss is thinning. A small Sitka spruce crown fell and is leaning across the trunk from the left, needle-less. The whole photo us mostly browns and greens as the tree was fully in shade in a canyon bottom. The photo is taken from low down, looking up.
