Alaska and vicinity site-specific January 2026 temperature departures from normal. Southwest coldest relative to normal, though Jan 2020 was significantly colder. Interior Alaska much colder than normal in early Jan then much above normal later in month. Southeast persistently mild. #akwx #Climate

Monday night, clear and the aurora was impressive. I saw green with pillars and then amazing ripples and waves across the Big Dipper and a fairly wide sky. 23:45 Alaska ST
