It is not about creating a world without problems, because there will always be problems. It is about developing a set of skills which allow us to navigate and solve the problems as they arise. We can make the world a better place, but we must understand that it is an ongoing journey, not a […]

There is some confusion over a specific paragraph in the OpenWebAuth spec. Some are interpreting it to mean that OWA does not authenticate a specific user, but simply says someone on the home instance logged in, but we don't know which one, therefore it is impossible to tell which user is […]

Playing favorites just creates winners, losers, and resentment. Instead, we need to move everyone to a healthier and happier existence and coexistence.

This is a very insightful article on Toxicity and Masculinity. It talks about how we handle the fact that many men are struggling in a world where so many other groups, such as woman and minorities, are also struggling.

I was able to talk about Hubzilla, Streams, Forte, and Mitra which have implemented various technologies, such as nomadic identity (which includes […]

Sometimes we have to deal with bad behavior and harassment in our online communities or in real life. It can be a challenge to do that when they provoke you and are trying to upset you on purpose.

For me, what I have found is that taking a breath, calming down, and taking the high road is […]

I attended FediForum earlier today and it was really nice to meet our fellow creators of the fediverse. Some great discussions and great demos.

Been saying this for awhile, but will repeat it for emphasis: If you love freedom but don’t care if it applies to everyone, what you actually love is privilege.

@Evan Prodromou asked:

> How much time per week are you willing to devote to political participation?

This is a hard question to answer for me because I look at this from a political science perspective, which is what I […]

Writing a timeline and history of a 15 year old software project took a bit more work that I thought it would. Thank goodness that git remembers everything, and people documented what happened along the way.

There are two primary ways to acquire wealth:

1. Provide value to others, and they compensate you for the value you provide.
2. Take wealth from others, directly or indirectly.

The first makes the world a better place, since value is created and exchanged, and people benefit from that exchange […]

Before you decide to support some proposed law against big tech, or big social media, read it first. In many cases it is written in such a way where it also applies to the fediverse and even small private forums. Some of these proposed laws are so intrusive and so expensive to comply with, they […]

The paradox of human behavior:

1. People are all unique and have their own beliefs, values, and preferences that frequently differ from the group they belong to.

2. People disregard #1 and tend to treat other people based on stereotypes and assumptions related to the group they belong to.
