I didn't say "middle of the road" though. The NYT "sane-washed" him as nothing more than a bombastic iconoclast. They refused to identify him as >dangerous< to our country and institutions when he was explicitly promising to be exactly that. They also sidelined editorialists who dared say as much.

Think of it this way: my interest in your degree of entertainment is on par with the degree of "criticism" you inexplicitly detected in the original article:

"legal experts have called [Mr. Trump’s lawsuit against CBS] far-fetched."

Ouch! Some real hard-hitting journalistic critique there.

No, MAGAs don't read the paper. But the NYC "capital class" does. And Lordy, do they *want* to believe that Trump is a traditional Republican (low taxes, weak FTC, minimal regulation) with a nothing but a rough exterior. Those readers will find exactly that permission in the Gray Lady pages.
