We are at Labour conference, telling members about the impact of the proposed bathroom ban. It would devastate trans people’s lives, create unworkable business challenges, and alienate voters.

This would be Labour’s legacy on LGBT+ rights for a generation. But it’s not too late for them to stop it.
A van with a screen on the side saying

Labour isn't working for LGBT+ voters. Stop the bathroom ban. A queue of people on a red background holding various pride flags.

If the law means that trans pupils really must be treated in a way that we hope that everyone can see is not in their best interests, then the way forward is clear – we must change the law. It is not good enough to say that this is just the way it has to be.

Children and young people who have done absolutely nothing wrong, and who deserve the support and help of those with the power to make a difference to make sure they can safely access education with dignity like anybody else.

We need the Scottish Government, councils and schools to acknowledge and take responsibility for the harm that could be caused to trans children and young people if their school policies do not allow them to be recognised as who they truly are.

Changes made yesterday by the Scottish Government to their guidance on supporting transgender pupils in schools will make this much harder for trans children and young people than it was before.

When any pupil goes to school, they should be able to do so safely, have appropriate toilets and changing rooms they can use, and be listened to and have their identity respected.

We've split them up this way as we think it's likely these two groups will have different experiences of maternity services, but you are of course welcome to go to whichever group seems the best fit for what you want to talk about.

If you have experience of using maternity services in any way we would love to hear your views about how these services can best serve LGBT+ people.

We will be running two groups - one for LGB+ people and one for trans people.

Join us and Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) for a focus group to discuss what you want to see in the new maternity service standards.

HIS are currently running a consultation and they are keen to hear from LGBT+ people about their experiences of using maternity services.

Make sure that your MP & the Minister for Equalities know how important inclusive, safe services for everyone are to you. Ask them to oppose guidance proposed by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission that would exclude & segregate trans people: www.scottishtrans.org/supreme-cour...

We’ve joined with other LGBTQIA+ organisations to speak out against the ongoing rise of the far-right and hostility towards people of colour, Muslims, refugees, people seeking asylum and migrants.

You can read our statement here and the sector statement here: www.consortium.lgbt/lgbt-sector-...
Graphic with an orange to purple background. It says "We’ve joined with other LGBTQIA+ organisations to speak out against the ongoing rise of the far-right and hostility towards people of colour, Muslims, refugees, people seeking asylum and migrants. We are appalled by this hostility and the normalisation of this hateful rhetoric, and we stand unequivocally with all those who are affected – both those who are part of our LGBTQIA+ communities and those who aren’t." Graphic with an orange to purple background. It says "We know that solidarity is not just about words. It also about action, support, listening and collaboration. We will continue our journey as an anti-racist organisation by frequently reviewing our policies and practices, both internally and externally, to ensure they take a proactive, anti-racist approach. We also plan to play our part by making sure that we dedicate time and resources to movements, campaigns and events that bring people together to counter these harmful forces." The EHRC has now submitted their draft Code of Practice to the UK Government and we are calling for full scrutiny & meaningful debate on the Code, to ensure trans people have access to public services, spaces and life.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to use TransActual’s template letter and write to your MP and raise your concerns around the Code of Practice and the lack of transparency around such a monumental change: www.scottishtrans.org/codeofpracti...

If the EHRC does not publish its analysis, MPs will also not be able to scrutinise whether our equalities and human rights body has actually listened to the thousands of people who responded to their consultation.
