A combination of AIs

Thank you. Definition: “What it feels like”?

If you built a system that replicates electrical & electrochemical processes, has a self-model, value-laden priorities, and interaction with the world, would it be a candidate for consciousness?

Thank you. Happy New Year to you!

The heart of the article appears to be whether consciousness requires electrical or electrochemical processing or both. If electrical, then AI could have it eventually. But why couldn’t AI use electrochemical processes? Hassabis would say it’s all computable. What would @earlkmiller.bsky.social say?

This is an interesting paper. Thanks for sharing. @neddo.bsky.social raises a further question: does suffering require consciousness? Even if AIs cannot be conscious, can they suffer?

It was. But… I said to my son, “Wrath of Khan” is one of the best science fiction films ever made. So we watched it again recently. It was still great. But can it compare to “The Empire Strikes Back”? I’m not sure.

I didn’t really get the hype around Andor. The main characters seemed relatively dull (or was that the point?). Brilliant villain but she only had a tiny amount of screen time.

Thanks. That’s an interesting viewpoint. Doctor Who would certainly have more ‘best bits’.

I agree. They both bring back great memories. Both with excellent soundtracks as well. Blake’s 7 edges it for just because it had a fantastic villain. Which would you choose if you had to?
