I know there are even worse things to be angry about, but this does make me want to burn it all down, despite knowing that's not the best way of actually making things better for everyone.

Spoiler: They used the money just as wisely as anyone else would, and it's so frustrating that this still isn't a common sense assumption to make.

This is absolutely not how it works, but it could be how it works to some degree if we did universal basic income and indexed it to a percentage of GDP per capita, say 25%, so that as GDP grew, the UBI grew too.

UBI isn't meant to replace the income from all jobs, and we aren't going to lose all jobs, especially if we have UBI to maintain spending. What UBI excels at is functioning as a floor and a dividend to make sure everyone gets a rightful share and a cushion to prevent the worst + enable new pursuits.

I'll tell you what, Mark. What I'm not okay with is this and just continuing to pretend the US just isn't capable of doing what so many other countries have figured out.

It may be of interest to you to know that the best way to go about science funding is to actually fund all scientists regularly and universally, and UBI does that best.

Originally launched in Flint, MI in 2024, Rx Kids provides EVERY pregnant woman with $1,500 while pregnant and $500/mo in basic income throughout the baby’s 1st-yr of life.

It has led to a 32% REDUCTION in allegations of infant maltreatment compared to ctrl cities

I like this proposal to progressively tax high CEO-to-worker pay ratios. This is what every tax should consider—how it can shape behavior in a desired direction.

I'll add that I think this should be paid in newly issued shares into a national UBI-paying fund that all corps should pay into annually.

Oh and Elon amplified this garbage with everyone over at the other place because of course he did.

There's a UBI post on FB being reposted by thousands of accounts that's pro-UBI disinfo. No, Sweden didn't do a big UBI pilot where 5,000 Swedes got $1800/mo in UBI for 3 years. That never happened. The "results" appear to be AI-generated. UBI works. It doesn't need false data. See my pinned thread.

One of the reasons we need universal basic income plus higher taxes on the rich is to boost the spending power of the bottom 60% and in doing so, reorient our economy around the needs of the majority of people who comprise it. As inequality has increased, our economy has adjusted to meet rich wants.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib as part of her Economic Dignity for All agenda has introduced a new version of her BOOST Act which is now a Universal Basic Income of $250/mo paired with a new 2.5% tax on incomes over $30k to function as a phaseout. That means everyone under $150k would see a net boost in income.
