I mean, there could not have been a more perfect ending to your wonderful year of programming than Matt Farley’s live performance of "People Like Raina Douris Because She's Great!" Thanks for bringing us so much great music in 2025, @rahrahraina.bsky.social, and best wishes for the year ahead!

Again, to clarify: Kristen Kurtis played One-Vote Wonders on the Morning Show 6-10 a.m. Mike Vasilikos played Patti Smith to start his show at 10 a.m. “People Have the Power” was neither a cover nor a One-Vote Wonder.

That Patti Smith song was the first one Mike V played on the midday show, right? That's a Patti Smith original, not a cover.

Appreciate your efforts this morning — that was fun!

*Aaaaand* here we are -- on the final day of the #XPNCountdown, no less!

Your post brings to mind the Langley Schools Music Project. Does anyone else out there listening to the #XPNCountdown own this album? It was made in the late ‘70s at four different elementary schools in British Columbia. Actually some great covers on there, including several Beach Boys songs.

And then a few years later, they gave the same treatment to Public Enemy and the Bomb Squad's work on It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back. www.kexp.org/read/2018/5/...

@kallao.bsky.social Such a great question. I don't have an answer, but I wanted to draw attention to KEXP's phenomenal programming a decade ago: first, a day dedicated to playing every song from Paul's Boutique *plus* every song the Beastie Boys & Dust Brothers sampled. www.kexp.org/breakdown/pa...

So many amazing DJs on @wxpnfm.bsky.social , but John Morrison is my favorite.

John Morrison tracing some of the sampling history of that drumbeat.

I went to John Morrison and Josh Leidy's lecture two years ago on the History of Hip Hop Sampling -- so freaking good.

I saw them when the tour came to Pittsburgh my sophomore year of college. I had lawn seats and was muddy head-to-toe. A *great* show!
