Interesting analysis: is this data available from the storefronts themselves or is it a predictive algorithm based on other like player tracking and charts?

My memory was they were more open about their corporate roots while also operating as a garage shop without much marketing or PR blitzing
Like they set themselves up away from Redmond proper because they didn’t wanna be seen as suity but also carried that corp belief that products did the talking

I love Xbox for this tbh. You never felt like any game was an “Xbox” game but they were great in their own right. Go through the list of OG Xbox games and take a memory bomb on how many good games that system had

Like halo isn’t even an Xbox game the way ff7 is a PlayStation one. It’s just halo

It’s almost like support studios are an industry standard?

Imagine being this salty about a new publication starting ala game informer and GameStop

The real problem with waiting for a saviour is that good policy discussions are lost in the shuffle of idolatry and idealism

Like the real discussion should be about finding and promoting more effective progressive fiscal policies rather than hyper focus on the progressive social ones

Imo that movement was more a warning about unchecked engagement algorithms and how easy it is to disinfo a community to create wide schisms. The media problem is less about the lack of opportunity and more the erosion that Google have made with SEO algos

TLDR: algorithms suck for society

We need to make a meme meta of a good sustainable length

Focus on a fabulous 5-15 hours or a fantastic 15 hour experience

Something like that to deprogram the 2013 meta of 100 hours of gameplay in a giant open world that started after the Witcher 3

Is there a way to track this vs hiring over the 2018-2022 period? I feel like there was a mass hiring for funded projects as gaming looked hot leading into the COVID bubble and this 5-6 year lag would be about when those projects either finish or milestone funding is reneged on

Hard to track tho

Rugby league is the superior Aussie footy though. Imagine a bunch of RBs and linebackers running straight at each other with the only ball movement being laterals

Every tackle is a dejean on Henry masterpiece 🧑‍🍳💋

Validation seeking behaviour by being rude to an invented outgroup to protect the faux legitimacy of your ingroup. Same as it ever was just like the Nike vs adidas schoolyard chats or the Trekkie vs Star Wars debates

Socials (Twitter really) was super bad at creating silos that fed off that energy

Similar vibes to titans fans except people forget we exist
December 2, 2024 at 1:16 AM
Yeah that’s kinda the rub I get the vibe that games are following the lag of movies where increased ticket prices made the general consumer want to invest in sure things like the mcu which cannabalised screen time for new IP

Is it the outcome of the black hole theory basically funnelling all new entrants into that ecosystem of 6 games. In my house I can’t convince any of my kids to step outside of their safe spaces and try new games it’s just Roblox / Fortnite and sports games

Cost of living pressures don’t help too
December 1, 2024 at 11:10 PM
Hey mat unrelated but a thought that I can’t let go. You were doing an interview with Kyle Boseman a while ago and talked about the impact on black hole games and I was wondering if there’s a way to quantify and seperate that revenue out from reported overall revs? new spends vs concurrent spend etc

I’d say you are buying into a conspiracy theory which sounds believable because it confirms an underlying bias of big tech is bad

I agree with most of this but I’d have Pahulu at lock, Tino at prop and Rcg on the bench

Tino Moe starting middles for opening 30 mins, Rcg and Joliffe on, Moe and Pahulu off with Tino going to lock. Rotate forwards in the second half as needed
