Hi Zack, full disclosure, I'm one who's not greatly worried about climate change. I'm seriously worried about industrial chemical pollution of the land, water, and air.

That said, I am curious what the graphs would look like if the left axis were "total land ice", and the bottom was set to zero.

That's our neighborhood, the space desert surrounding us, bathed in fatal radiation. Fortunately, we live on the only known planet that supports and protects human life.

Outperforms in what way? Allows them spend 27% less time with each patient, see 27% more patients per hour, or to produce 27% better health results in patients? I highly suspect its not the latter, as such a thing as "better health results" is highly subjective and hard to measure.

Relax! NATO welcomes an ascendant and militarized Germany. What could possibly go wrong? Again.

Was he premature in classifying proteins that were not understood at the time as coded by "junk DNA"?

My original explanation for the vast quantities of "useless" DNA was that it helped protect the critical parts from mutation by a gamma ray strike, by reducing the chance of a critical hit.

I checked a few online dictionaries and couldn't find any that listed this as one of the definitions. Could you provide a link to the dictionary that has this definition?

Did. Got paid. No complaints. I'm glad I had the option.

If USAID cuts funding to a NGO, and this causes the NGO to lose all or most of its funding, then was it really a Non Government Organization? In practice, its existence is at good pleasure of the US Government, for the benefit of unknown special interests, and is staffed by unelected employees.

If USAID cuts funding to an NGO, and that causes the NGO to lose all or most of its funding, then was it really a Non Government Organization? It's possible that at least some of these NGOs were controlled voices, propagating support for US government interests.

I'm sorry your former student is working with an insufficiently funded NGO. I hope she keeps her job.

I have to wonder whether though, if USA-ID cuts funding to an NGO, and this causes the NGO to lose most or all of it's funding, then was it really a Non Government Organization?

Maybe we should create a multitude of competing, independent, self-learning AIs. After they outthink humans, they'll then outthink themselves, then outhink the AIs that outthink themselves, ad addendum. Hopefully, we can duck down and go unnoticed by all their thinking.

I'm good at shallow platitudes. Maybe I could be mayor? Oh... wait... not a billionaire. Nevermind.

He didn't. It isn't a Nazi salute. The audio makes it clear that he is making a sincere gesture of sharing his heart with the audience. Awkward, yes. Fascist, not likely.

I and my wife recently compared the lowest-cost Covered California plan to a private health insurance plan with Americare. This private plan is almost 1/3 the cost, and has lower copays and deductibles. We switched about 8 months ago. Personally, we're glad this private health insurance exists.
