The 5-4 opinion is from Sotomayor. The court holds that a federal law that instructs courts to dismiss a claim presented in a second or successive habeas corpus application does not apply to motions filed by federal prisoners. Gorsuch dissented, joined by Thomas and Alito, and in part by Barrett.
