a couple academics here and there suggested people might want to study a writer of color or a female writer once in a while and the defenders of the canon have yet to stop pissing

it's not only a matter of needing to value women more (or at all), it is genuinely a matter of needing to value men less. no man is so important, so singular, that he deserves a freebie atrocity here and there and we all just have to look the other way

and then some people take it a step farther, not just insisting that we're overreacting, being hysterical again, but flirting with the idea that these sorts of behaviors are a prize that men of a certain "caliber" have earned

think of his writing! his art! his electric cars that keep exploding! surely we can't throw all of that away over a few raped or dead chicks

the lives and well being of women, girls, and even little boys, simply don't matter as much as a man not being inconvenienced or, god forbid, made to face consequences for absolutely anything, no matter how heinous

men broadly, but prominent men in particular, no matter what field, no matter what their actual accomplishments or contributions are, are simply weighed as too important to have their lives derailed over something as mundane as domestic violence, rape, CSA, murder

and this is the repeating problem I see with every hand wringing, sad boy defense of any of the names appearing in those emails with Epstein, or any man that has ever faced Being Canceled

not only is this conceding that, yeah, he probably did rape little boys, it's also insisting that he's such a showman, such a singular talent, that he deserves it. toss him a few more, as a treat for being the King of Pop

now, people have been denying that MJ is a child molester since those first accusations went public, but this is worse

to establish the tone of what I'm referring to, I have an excerpt from one of George Carlin's books:
