I don't want to start a thing so I'll just say that there will never be a good argument for privatizing USPS. That would be like privatizing libraries. The aim of services isn't to be run for profit, they are for serving the greater good, which USPS has been extremely successful at.

This postbox, in Amsterdam’s Central station, can’t quite remember why it’s holding up a blank sign over its head. Maybe it was protesting (‘what do we want? More letters!’) Or perhaps it was part of the station’s signalling. It was a long time ago. It sighs wearily, & feels old.

Postcards are such a low-stakes way to reach out and connect with someone. I often send them to people who I know are unlikely to write back, but I frequently hear from them (by text or next time I see them in person) saying that they were excited and happy to find the postcard in the mailbox. 💌
