And since the major difference between, say, Mrbeast or 5minutecrafts and AIgen slop is that the slop takes a tenth the time to produce, whether the market turns to prioritizing human creativity or not those guys lose.

As in, AI may just so badly oversaturate the memosphere that it manages to shift real artists into something else entirely. But if it turns out people can't or won't distinguish between meaningful work and garbage, AI will drown us in garbage til we learn or there are no artists left.

The erosion of (wide reaching) interest in Weird Little Artists making Funky Little Things, and consequently the erosion of _funds for those endeavours_, is a harm. For a long while there was a push on all online creatives to produce as much as possible in order to compete. AI may flip that script

The market for high effort low skill amateurs has gotten overfilled, replaced by low effort high output professionals, low effort conglomerates, and now 0 effort aigen slop that bears only a passing resemblance to actual content, the artistic equivalent of Famine's CHOW from Good Omens.

Ok so the trajectory of the internet has gone from "dumb shit that is kinda meaningful to One Person going viral one thing at a time" to "increasingly large quantities of churned out content from sources with a single parent company/sponsor".

Mrbeast I have 0 sympathy for because honestly he was stage 2/3 of centralizing mass online garbage content production, so getting beat by stage 5 after making lots money feels like no better than he deserves. But others will suffer for this who were just Makin Fun Stuff

I have been saying that shitty thoughtless content was already valueless before a machine could do it faster. Art's gotten more interesting in my digital spaces as people avoid the hell out of the overrendered style AI has copied to hell.

I honestly do not want to reach someone who dislikes the term "clanker" badly enough to autoban all mention of it - not because I dislike them, but because I have no interest in mass appeal and "I am already uncomfortable with this topic" is a totally valid reason to skip past me entirely.

Yeah like. I have seen some contexts where it's used as a dismissive term for machines, more like "bot"? I think I liked a post you made where it was used casually. Anyone self-labelling as using a slur is both undermining the whole "it's not sentient" point and also not very nice to minorities.

I don't tend to consider being social a virtue, and especially on the internet, putting together bulk lists of "people irritating enough to you that you just don't want to deal" and systematically keeping them out your feed... low-harm high self-protection action.

Like, hey, this word is set up to mimic the tone and sentence function of a slur - but it's ok, we are dehumanizing that nothuman on purpose! This surely won't bring up any uncomfortable feelings in people who have had slurs said to them. Of course we can dehumanize something that was never human!

Also also if you are doing art exclusively for therapeutic or financial reasons and you're comfy, this advice is not for you. This advice is for the me in art school who was sure my overly heavy outline style was Just Because Of Disability and refused to work on shapes.

By all means adapt your art to your needs, and produce/show/sell art at whatever level!

But! If your style is "only one head rotation", "hands always in pockets", "only one body type", "outline heavy", you can change that. Practice! Challenge yourself!

Speaking as an autistic artist with a degenerative eye condition, "my style is marked by my inability to do hard things" limits your growth.

You don't have to do stuff to my standards, but if you art the way you do is because it's easier... it's your own standards you're missing.
