Contract says game writer.
I wander around Excel looking for the exit. I draw colleagues' attention with loud lamentaions. I get cursed by the Chaos Gods as part of my tasks.
I also teach SF at Uni. That part's great.
ADHD/assorted issues stemming from it.
It does, and I'm pretty happy about it.

Lit degree and also teach one class a year while writing the odd Slaanesh description in iambic pentameter for my work.

But then, you'd have to design for NPCs that contain possibilities to deliver gameplay/world/character information in various ways, often all at once, often by implication. It's the sort of artfulness of execution that LLMs can't begin to approach. (Substitute "world" for NPC in all of the above.)

I've always found it to be the most interesting way to design a narrative. A choice of dialogue options as simple as "Go along with NPC/Rebut NPC/Switch topic to something else they mentioned" is already a rock-solid foundation to build complex NPC behavior on.

I like how in your examples the player makes relatively simple decisions, which a complex system adjusts to in rich, thematically rewarding ways.
It's the opposite of an LLM where one's prompts need to be incredibly complex and precise to achieve an answer with some basic coherence and specificity.

Using words to prompt a word-chipper to abide by metaphorical/thematic constraints is like feeding a wood carving of a human through a wood-chipper and expecting it to spew out a wood carving of a different human and not some mangled lump with (maybe) a thumb sticking out of it.

It's literally impossible to teach an autocorrect tool narrative design. Creating even a dialogue tree (pure "words") requires weighing probably a dozen structural abstractions of how a dialogue tree could develop as you're working on it. Structural abstractions are entirely outside an LLM's domain.

You told your people to write those 500 hours of lines man. (Saying it as one who's also told to do that ...) What's more, your game contains countless examples of filler other disciplines were hassled to produce.
Why would anyone knowingly strive to make games which are 3/4 filler by weight?

There are in fact other game studios, but they are considered an existential alien threat to the One Studium. No one is allowed to question whether that's really the case but if pressed, most would agree that mutual annihilation may well be the best possible outcome at this point.

Blindingly*

Literally the drum I've been beating at my place for a year now. Placeholder text should be a quick and dirty description of what the thing is/is for - and be blindly obvious as to its placeholder-ship. It's also a great live, in-game documentation tool and anyone can do it, not just the writers.

The Emperor naming the Primarchs: "I am going to determine the course of your entire lives by drawing from this salad bowl full of shredded dictionaries."
Orks naming themselves: "'S wot I like shoutin' da mos'."

Looks pretty nice, doesn't it? It's great to look at battlefields falling apart as I lose every single engagement :D

Even film writers aren't in charge of a film and *they're* the role that this sort of ignorance stems from, by analogy. "A movie starts with the script!" (and then proceeds in any which way, sometimes without the script) A game starts with... not the script (whatever that word means for a game).

Same vibe

Yeah... I wrote that guy's words :D Great backstory and a welcome break doing the WH version of a vaudeville villain after months of Slaanesh.

I mean, they don't exist.

You made me imagine the something entirely different in place of the spoon solo. I curse you through breathless laughter.

It's painful to drive at rules of thumb with every specific piece of feedback and realize they amount to nothing unless you put them in absolutely categorical terms. (to then be asked "but why so categorical, you're a game writer? It's not like you have real clout. Ooof.)

He merely *recalls* the evenings as rainy, wherein the rain (maybe erroneously?) thus recalled *seemingly* washes aways a sort of sordid misadventure which his erroneus prose, now purged, amounted to - but no more, as it is now merely cryptic, and so much the better for it.
Idk, man, has to be a bit

When you cut away everything else one could say about oneself, is not "a plausible individual" what remains, though?
September 29, 2025 at 9:46 AM
...and adding them to your reel, I hope? One of the main actors in our latest DLC has a VA credit as "burning pigs" in D:OS 2. So you never know.

So... Evades all advances, thrusts once, hopes for the best?
