It’s important that we understand the impacts that storms are having on wildlife, especially as they become more common and intense as the climate changes.

Please see our ‘Storm Response Guide’ to find out how and where to report these impacts and other ways to help:

As you head out along the beach over the next few days, you might see injured or dead wildlife, litter and sewage washed up along the shore as a result of large waves, gales and high rainfall.

With Storm Amy set to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Scotland this weekend, rough seas are sure to follow.

Along the coast, storms can be incredibly damaging to marine life and habitats...

Scotland is home to globally important seabird populations, yet most seabird species are in decline.

Change is urgently needed to stop extinctions & restore our seas - this exciting new role is your chance to help deliver that change.

🪹 | Seabirds that survived recent bird flu outbreaks have continued to reproduce, although overall breeding performance remains notably low, according to a new study.

The study has looked at breeding success in Northern Gannets at two locations during 2023.

New @edinburghnapier.bsky.social study
suggests that exposure to #avianflu does not affect breeding success in gannets, but shows worrying declines in breeding productivity over all.

We're very proud to be part of this vital research project.

Help remove and report this type of pollution as we undertake a Nurdle Hunt (on Tuesday 14 October at 11am) in North Berwick to mark Fidra's Great Global Nurdle Hunt🌍 @FidraTweets

What do you know about nurdles?

These plastic pellets may be small but they’re a big problem🚫

Trillions end up in the sea every year. If eaten by wildlife like fish, seabirds and marine mammals, they can build up harmfully inside food chains and individuals🐟

#Bass intense wing flapping after a shower a few weeks back. The power, & strength building muscles for that first flight to the sea. where once crash landed tooheavy to take off They must learn to fish. Many now airborne and looking healthy @seabirdcentre.bsky.social

Did you know?

Gannets feed their chicks by regurgitating fish directly into the guga's mouth! It might not be pretty but it's a very effective method🐟✅
