They'll likely scale to be drop-in standalone power sources for data centers and remote microgrids - a needed yet relatively small fraction of the transition to electrification!

China was trying to develop an export market for grid scale nuclear reactors & associated components, but market conditions couldn't settle on 1 model to scale to be economically produced.
Each project was bespoke, so no economy of scale could develop to exhibit Wright's law.

Back when it was built it was probably a good idea, the hydro co-generation on site is interesting.
As the grid moves away from the baseload paradigm, more solar/wind with storage and HVDC transmission lines (MUCH easier to build than tunnels!) will be big parts of a less centralized grid.

I'm certainly not saying shut them all down right now, that would be stupid, but building new grid scale nuclear is not going to happen.

Great point, the water used for cooling can also cause microclimate thermal issues as it becomes steam & enters the local environment.
The more one learns about the realities of nuclear the more clear it becomes that it's not the miracle magic bullet some people want it to be.
