I came to the Blue Sky because Facebook trotted out their new TOS. What I left behind is a group dedicated to my favorite fandom -- A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I left word with the members of my group that they could find me here.
Spoiler alert: The Help #Booksky Last night I watched The Help. They skipped that whole thing from the book where Celia is hinted at being (a certain character) in disguise with a coat hanger.

Still, what an uplifting story — hopeful just like Superman 2025.

@sandiegozoo.bsky.social I took an adolescent mouse away from my cat. Put it outside but it never moved from the spot. Was there an alternative? I think it’s fatally injured. Should I make sure it’s on its side so it can breathe as it dies?

The kind of Love described by Socrates (based on admiration) doesn’t claim that the beloved is perfect or even good. Rather, it sees something good in the beloved that registers as beauty and cues the memory of Truth.

I like the way feminism was on Star Trek TOS. Women were competent and respected, but their femininity was onstage with them. Mary Richards came a few years later with a different heading that encouraged us to reject a lot of what was femininity. That’s my perception anyway.

Interestingly the Founders have a Great LINK versus a Great Unity. This recalls the Athenian youth of the Golden Thread, which is wound through A Tale of Two Cities through the agency of Lucie, Little Lucie and Number 22… light, emanations, new lives

Why was November 24 chosen as the date for Mr. Lorry’s ascent up Shooter’s Hill? I have not found anything special about Friday November 24 1775 in real history.

All of humanity is obligated to treat people like people. Be honest. Be your best. Don’t be mean. If you’re uncomfortable around someone who has a crush on you, team up with them on defining and observing explicit boundaries. But if you turn mean, your offense is multiplied by many lovers hurt.

A Tale of Two Cities #Booksky

I think the Book of the Dead is spoken in 2 Cities. Ariadne certainly is. Just as the Book of the Dead is supposed to help people navigate death, Ariadne leads people from the doom of the labyrinth via the golden thread.

Must review my old notes on 2C and BOTD.

A Tale of Two Cities #Booksky When Carton doffs his wig at the Bailey, he resembles Darnay. When he doffs his noggin at the guillotine, he resembles a crowd of other headless corpses.

A Tale of Two Cities #Booksky Doctor Manette and Lucie would go walking “up and down, up and down” — pacing. A lot of things in 2C go “up and down” — sewing needles, packet boats, Darnay’s pecker, the blade of the guillotine, the golden thread as it is wound, the handles of the grindstone…

There’s so much I’m not getting here. The vibe I was getting recently is that House Republicans were tired of MAGA, and even MAGA was getting sour on Trump here and there. But now I find out about this House Resolution to let Trump stay on for a third term. How did this happen?

“Difficulties are things that show a person what they are.” — Epictetus

Maybe my difficulty showed me that I was mainly someone who cries for help. On the other hand, if all I could do for myself was speak, but nobody was actually listening, then what was left except to seek help?

@dickenssociety.bsky.social I don’t post here as often as I would like, because nobody else does. For fans of A Tale of Two Cities, you can find a lot by searching Bluesky on that title. That is the best way to get at my 2C posts, wherewith I won’t overwhelm this site. Thank you.

One of the really bad things that happens when the one you love antagonizes you — besides the basic dissonance and trauma — is that it becomes more of a challenge to sympathize with your beloved. Thus, the full experience of love is diminished, or perhaps at least intermittently diminished.

Arrest trump
Today I received FOUR death notifications for people in ICE custody. That's 30 deaths since Trump took office. It's appalling & unacceptable.

ICE is required—by law—to ensure detainees are safe & their basic needs are met. It's clear this isn't the case. We NEED answers.

Guys, I think about this sometimes. I can’t quite wrap my head around the idea that a whole nation forfeits self defense (not to speak of the offense they’re actually committing) just because it occupies another nation. Didn’t all nations start out that way— by displacing the natives?
I don't think you're yelling, I think we're having a quite civil discussion.
But this isn't about individuals in Israel it's about international law. Israel is an occupying force, under international law a nation cannot occupy a people and the claim self-defense if they're attacked. The occupied

Ultimately John said that what closeness we had shared was intended to be temporary, and I responded like that was somehow a bad thing. I didn’t mean it and I’m sorry I said it. It was one of those situations where I was physically uncomfortable and mentally / emotionally overwhelmed…
