I thought I’d have another few days to post this well-known John Gordon Thomson cartoon from 1880 featuring a Jim Gavin lookalike & actalike character as the #aras2025 race continued, but it looks like it’s post now or post never…

Jim Gavin’s name will remain on the ballot (he’s been nominated, he’s on the #aras25 ballot: that’s how it works, despite his withdrawal announcement), so…

we now have the chance to do the funniest thing…

Correction on this one.

I hate being inaccurate, though I don’t dock myself as many points when people don’t clearly indicate their presence for the home audience.

FrankieWatch fans: Cllr Daly is not present for the roll call.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Small correction, btw: I have been told by a reliable person that Frankie Daly WAS present for the roll call. Happy to correct, as I always am on stuff.

I can only ask Cllr Daly to facilitate the continuing FrankieWatch by speaking INTO THE MIC with one word when required.

Gotta go. Sorry for bugging out: prior commitment that is much more important to me.

If you have followed along, thanks for bothering.

The next council meeting currently on my list is the Metro meeting on October 20. Come back if you want more of *stares at wasteland* this.

There are 13 motions on the table after that, none of which are earth-shattering. Over half are Write A Letter motions.

Alas, I will not be here to tell you what happens with the People Of Any Age Should Be Allowed To Drive School Buses motion (technically that's what it says)

I'm just going to assume they'll reach a half-baked decision on this one.

Then they'll quickly approve the strategic fund money for artists (I had a screenshot above).

Then they'll quickly approve the conference attendance by councillors (they always do)

When is an adjournment not an adjournment, I wonder.

If I hadn't given away my copy of Robert's Rules Of Order, I'd be dropping it out to Dooradoyle right now. We're going to have another 10 months of this.

Anyway, adjourning till 18:20 (supposedly 5 minutes. IT'S TEN)
seamusryan.bsky.social
They're adjourning for five minutes till 18:15 says the Priomh Wotsit. That's not five minutes btw.

Long pause.

"I had my hand up for a long time" says Eddie Ryan.

Longer pause. They sit back down.

"DO you want to get in before we adjourn"

He does.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Stephen Keary says he'll be voting against it unless they give him more information.

Five minutes, suggests the Priomh Wotsit.

"Five minutes turned into half an hour of messing around earlier" says Cllr Keary.

"If you got your party's house in order" retorts the Priomh-Wotsit.
seamusryan.bsky.social
All stop as they consider levies under the Development Contribution Scheme.

Apparently they were supposed to take another adjournment before discussing this, because they forgot to discuss it with Stephen Keary.

I don't care about this.
seamusryan.bsky.social
I'd like to be awake for the person singing the album I couldn't stop listening to in 2006.

Anyhoo, Stephen Keary wants more info on the budget. They'll have that in November.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Moving on...

Budget meeting proposed for 21 Nov.

Dammit, I was thinking of going to a gig that night. Seriously.
seamusryan.bsky.social
DG Pat Daly says the government's Observer programme will be handling that and that it's usually 1-2 staff at these things but five for the Ryder Cup.

Anyway, it was already approved, apparently, so moot.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Oh, hang on: no.

He's fine with the councillors going.

He wants to know how much the execs going with them will cost, to avoid councillors being saddled in the paper with having spent the total travel cost on themselves... I mean, their Important Trip.
seamusryan.bsky.social
We're moving on.

Quick noting of multiple reports.

They've approved all four foreign travel junkets for councillors.

Oh, wait, is that PJ Carey saying that Limerick is the most travelled (for councillors) county in Ireland for Paddy's Day & we shoudl reconsider?
seamusryan.bsky.social
I cannot speak for anyone else, obviously.

Sean Golden mentions that the land is there, that the state is the biggest landowner in every local authority, and has a key role in providing housing land.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Am I including my local park in that?

Yes, because to want my local park as an exception would be hypocritical as fuck of me.
seamusryan.bsky.social
I've said before that I'm fine with putting houses everywhere.

Everywhere.

Definitely everywhere agreed in the current development plan, which councillors happily approved... but everywhere.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Sarah Kiely asks about 150 smart modular homes being provided, saying there's been no consultation.

Describes it as a bombshell.

I suspect she's less bothered about the modular homes themselves rather than where they're going to be put.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Dan McSweeney had a figure earlier of 0.89% of all the affordable purchase homes in Ireland delivered by Limerick.

He probably said when earlier, but I'm going to assume that's the 7 in 2024.
seamusryan.bsky.social
Limerick apparently has 218 affordable homes "in the pipeline".

They will exceed the target for affordable and cost-rental homes, apparently.

Total about 500 provided in total.

I'd like to know who set these targets ridiculously low, but that's another day's question.
seamusryan.bsky.social
John Moran comments that he was going to ask for a declaration of a housing emergency today, but that if they've already had one declared two years ago, he's not sure what use that'd be, given the complete lack of progress since.

Hey, maybe write a letter. COuncillors like that.
