We need a train. :)

And the Malahat needs to be double laned both ways, a single lane accident like this shouldn’t stall traffic like this.

Where Floyd’s used to be?

Thanks for the mention. My grandmother was like, “you’re in the paper today.” Made her day. 😁

Mayor Helps said it best, perception is reality, so no matter the averages or instances, if people feel unsafe, then they’re unsafe.

I can’t speak to the other questions, Im not sure what you’re asking. :)

New leadership will likely see more funding, especially with their first budget request.

Let’s see if the Mayors will help them, especially with 2026 election around the corner.

To clarify, beat/bike officers can be allocated from within the existing resources, it’s not perfect, but it can work.

Crown is slow and courts are backed up (but improving) and private businesses are walking away from their own loss prevention practices, so the Police aka tax payer foots the bill to cover them/protect them.

We’re on the same page and beat/bike officers can be allocated dwtn.

It’s not in the wheelhouse of VicPD I can assure you. Our criminal code/justice system has made it easier for criminals to disobey the law, unfortunately Police see a revolving door of perpetrators.

DVB’s survey is pertinent, but extra officers won’t solve their concerns.
June 11, 2025 at 8:16 PM
And speaking to your point about the budget, remember that Vicpd is responsible for the safety of 5 Million visitors a year in addition to another 100,000 to 200,000 CRD residents who frequent downtown services (concerts, parades, etc), so the budget is large to accommodate these aspects.

There’s a perception that extra beat/bike officers patrolling the areas will stop crime, it won’t because retail thefts, for example, are baked into many business plans (shrinkage) because those who steal aren’t held accountable enough (charges, jail time) to make a difference.

It’s not incumbent on the Police to improve the perception of safety, definitely can’t spend your way out of it, it’s the responsibility of the governments to support community projects and increase business supports that improve livability.

Are the pastries any good?

Wish it was “interesting,” but it’s not. : -) Saanich was short Board members & I was nearing the end of my term at VicPD, so I was approached & asked to apply, Im bringing over decades of Governance/Finance/Non Profit leadership experience.

Appreciate your analysis, keep it up. 👍

Budget cuts. Used to work there, it barely gets by (decades ago) and nowadays.
