Last week I attended #EGU25 to share my research in a poster session. Link to the abstract: doi.org/10.5194/egus...

It was a great experience to present my research, listen to fascinating talks, and meet familiar names in person

First sampling event of my field experiment completed!

It has been a very dry growing season so far which is concerning for farmers across the UK. I am intrigued to see how my Bere adapted to these conditions across the different soil types

This #InternationalWomensDay EGU also recognise the way that diversity in science includes many marginalised identities, which often intersect with & compound the barriers to science for women & people across the gender spectrum.

Last week I had to pleasure of attending and presenting my research at the Barley Away Days hosted by @hutton.ac.uk

Using an accessible high-throughput system, Scottish landrace #bere had a larger zone of soil influence than an elite cultivar at early seedling stage

Opening slide at a conference presentation.

The title reads: Bere barley: root soil interactions.

The graphic displayed shows a modern bred barley plant next to a historic landrace which has evolved in response to the local environmental conditions and management. There is a zoomed in section of both root systems which shows that the landrace has a larger zone of soil modification “Rhizosheath” than the modern barley.

Happy world soil day! Just about… 🌱 This year’s theme is “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage” which is about using soil data to make the right decisions.

As someone who loves photography, I wanted to share a barley root system forming its own unique soil. Enjoy!
