but about which I was “meant” to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools and blank checks. " © 1989 Peggy McIntosh

Check your white privilege. Always.

"I think whites are carefully taught not to recognize white privilege, as males are taught not to recognize male privilege. (...) I have come to see white privilege as an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, ....

During our last rescue mission, our RHIB was severely damaged and is no longer usable. We need a new one, and this quickly! The next rotation is already planned for November. To be able to cover these unexpected additional costs, we need your support!

Um uns diese unerwarteten extra Kosten leisten zu können, brauchen wir eure Unterstützung! Bitte spendet über den Link in der Story oder in der Bio. Seenotrettung machen kostet Geld - es nicht machen kostet Leben. Keine Seenotrettung ohne euch!

WE NEED YOU NOW – urgently!

That is why we demand safe passage for the Global Sumud Flotilla.
All Eyes on Gaza!
seapunks.bsky.social
Our criticism is directed against state, organizations and military policies that violate human rights.

We stand with civilians – Palestinian, Jewish, Muslim, Israeli, and international - who fight and sustain for freedom, dignity, and justice.

Its aim is to support the civilian population in Gaza, suffering under a devastating genocide.

We declare our solidarity with the Sumud Flotilla and its mission to draw attention to this urgent humanitarian crisis.
seapunks.bsky.social
As more than 40 boats with over 500 people on board approach Gaza, the risk of Israeli military intervention grows in the coming days. This is a humanitarian mission by an international civilian fleet, protected by international law.
seapunks.bsky.social
With humanitarian aid beeing blocked from reaching Gaza and trucks carrying food and medical supplies continuously being halted at the border, the @globalsumudflotilla aims to break the siege and open a humanitarian corridor at sea.

But this is precisely the risk the Libyan coast guard and the EU are accepting. We demand immediate clarification and consequences from Italy and the European Union.

SAVE PEOPLE! NOT BORDERS!

This must first be understood and stated very clearly: With the protection, cover, and funding of the EU, the so-called Libyan coast guard can shoot at civilians without consequences! Fortunately, the crew and the rescued people on board were unharmed!
seapunks.bsky.social
The crew came under fire after rescuing 66 people in distress at sea. Following the shots fired on the Ocean Viking, this is the second time in just a few weeks that the so-called Libyan coast guard has felt authorized to shoot at civilian sea rescuers who uphold and defend existing human rights.

Aber genau das nehmen die Küstenwache Libyens und die EU in Kauf. Wir fordern sofortige Aufklärung und Konsequenzen durch Italien und die Europäische Union.

During the night from Thursday to Friday, a patrol boat of the so-called Libyan coast guard fired on the rescue ship Sea-Watch 5.
seapunks.bsky.social

Donations like yours made it possible to purchase life jackets, medicine, and food, as well as to fill up the ship's fuel tanks. Thank you so much for your solidarity! Let us know in the comments when you last supported civilian sea rescue.

As a result, 222 people who were in distress at sea were saved from worse.

This mission was supported by United4Rescue with €56,900. This is only possible thanks to your numerous donations.

One search led nowhere. Presumably, people fleeing were intercepted here by the so-called Libyan Coast Guards – a violation of existing human rights law! In these 48 hours, the crew of Sea Punk I actively supported five boats in distress.
seapunks.bsky.social

10 alerts in just 48 hours! The Sea Punk I crew assisted 222 people in distress at sea during the last rotation. They were on nonstop duty for two days without a single moment's peace and did an enormous job.

Four times, the crew found only an empty boat, one of which was on fire.
