I do not like RG, but I understood his point completely differently. I see his comment as a criticism of empty gestures: talk, and no action.
RG, on the other hand, gives millions of £ to animal charities without telling you to do so.
Calls for the ethical treatment of animals aren't a bad thing.

As a Pole... ;) Poland's sympathy towards the US has been on a similar level for years and is not related to the American government's actions or political orientation. It has its roots in a long history and romanticised (by Poles) relations.
